Xtm Xlb???

Anyone know anything about XTM? The XTM XLB to be exact. I have a line on one for cheap (no motor) and I'm trying to decide if it would be an ''interesting'' brushless project. I havent ever seen one in person and dont really know anything about XTM. Is it a decent quality product. Or am I just wasting my time. The drivetrain has to be pretty solid, it comes stock w/ a 3.5 horsepower .28 nitro motor.

It certainly would be the bigest brushless Ive seen. Damn thing has an almost 16.5" wheelbase. I'm thinking lehner 22xx and a MGM 160-24 on 6s, put 40 series tires and a truck body and run it like a big truggy?

Funny you mentioned the XLB. I was just handling one yesterday while I was working at Hobby People. XTM is Hobby People's store brand, so we carry everything for it.

I haven't driven one or seen one drive, but just yesterday a guy who owns a XLB came in for about the 10th time to get a replacement 1st speed spur gear (plastic). Of course you could do away with the 2-speed and do something different.

If you do decide to do the conversion, you would certainely have plenty of chassis space!

I watched a video on it. It does look to have a good turn circle.
I think that may be cause it has no center diff. If you went with
a center diff in it. It would element the first gear problem metal man
mentioned. Help the turning radius to.

Yeah, the guy that came in yesterday was looking at buying the center diff for the Mammoth ST, which also fits the XLB (same # of teeth). Only problem is (IMO), the Mammoth ST center diff has a steel spur gear.

MM. How did the build quality look? Did the rest of the drive train look solid?(besides the spur gears) How heavy was it?

Sorry for the rapid fire questions, but I need to make a decision on this today or hes going to ebay with it.

Anyone know if the XLB usues 32p or Mod1 pinion/spurs?

Mod1.

It really is a truggy with buggywheels and shell.

It's a little different than a truggy, which would be the Mammoth ST. It's longer, and uses a large support for the wing that attaches to the chassis.

You might just want to get a Ofna Hyper 7/8 differential and put the Kyosho plastic spur gear on it, so you don't have to deal with hardened pinion gears.

I did buy it and am planning on doing the conversion. I probably won't get it in my hands untill this weekend though. I have been just poking around trying to figure out what what options are available, and what I might want to do with it. I knew the center diff was going to be a little challenge, but i also figured that folks here would have some sugestions. MM Thanks for the sugestion. I'll have to look into what might work once I get the buggy in my hands and can see what I have to work with.

Question: (Every vehicle I have ever had has had a transmision rather than a center diff so this might sound a little dumb) Do center diffs have one way bearings in them? Will I need to keep the mechanical brakes or will I be able to use the motor for the brakes with a center diff?

BTW: My plan for this thing is to make a parking lot racer out of it. Run it on pavement with the imex max foams. This thing is nice and low and should hug the ground pretty well.

The center diff is just a standard diff with a spur gear instead of a ring gear. You can use the motor's brake and remove the mechanical brakes to decrease the XLB's weight.

What part numbers would I need to build the Ofna center diff and which Kyosho plastic gear works w/ it?

You can get the Hyper 7/8 diff on Ebay, and Mike sells the spur gear in the gears section.
