Need Opinions on a Brushless RC18Truggy - 10.08.2006, 04:07 AM

Well, I have always liked the RC18T's, and after driving two of my friends' trucks today (one had an 18B, the other had an 18T - which he actually bought the night before), I must say, these little things are fun. I have been thinking and I think I have a good idea, but I want everyone's opinion.

I'll probably start off with the Factory Team Kit and buy some extra stuff like MIP CVD's and things to bolster driveline strength (I'll explain why in a second). I was also planning to mount a Mini Inferno wing on the back to get that proper truggy look.

For the wheels, I was planning on using the Jato 3.3 Anaconda Tires. I would just buy those adapters that allow for the use of touring car wheels, and then pick up two rear sets of the Anacondas, since they use a touring car hex.

Now for the electronics. As a base, I am planning on somehow fitting a Hitec 81MG (or 85 - forgot the specific number) in there. I will run a Spektrum Pro DSM receiver with Telemetry (going to use that as my LVC for my Lipos). I'll be running 3S lipo.

I am planning on running the Dynamite C4 9200kv motor (which is rated up to 12V so it should be ok on 3S). Its a 380 motor so it should have plenty of torque. Does anyone know what the Mamba's are? I though they were 280's. I did some calculations and this think will have 130000+ RPM on 11V and 150000+ on 12.6V (a peaked lipo voltage). Thats unloaded KV but still lol.

I figure this motor on 3S is going to be a little much for a normal Mamba ESC, so I was planning on using a Mamba Max ESC, which is overkill, but I can get them very cheap.

So, what do you guys think? Too much power? Kind of lame? Pointless? Cool?

This just kind of popped into my mind and if I get enough money from selling some junk on ebay, I will go ahead and go through with it. If I dont get enough money, then I will just buy a stock 18T and build up from there. Either way, I want this truck lol.

Any comments welcome.

To start with;

those wheels are a big no-go.

They are way too large!
I am using 1/10th wheels and they are big allready. you need to think of the drivetrain.

the wriath 7k motor seems to make the little bugger fly. (and is MORE than enough motor for it) I am using a mamba 8k on it, on 6 cells gp1100's it'r pretty fast allready.

A must have hopup is the gearbox, sold on ebay for about 25 bucks.

If you get the hitec servo you need to overcome the saver problem. I made my own horn for it to work.

My advice is to get the team kit, and watch what dies first. (it's a pretty tough drivetrain, except for the output cups on the diffs)

here is a short movie of my rc18 with the 8k on only 6 cells.

I agree with Serum, those wheels would be way too large. If you're really wanting a truggy look, get some Mini Inferno ST wheels/tires and hexes. They're larger than the RC18T tires by a decent amount, but still small enough to be run with these little motors.

I also agree about the Wraith motor. It's supposed to be a nice medium of torque and speed. However, I run a 6800kv mamba in mine and love it. And you don't need a MM ESC for a 3S lipo on these motors. The Mamba 25 is perfectly capable of running these little motors with a 3S lipo.

And otherwise, you could always look into a quark 33. they are nice controllers too.

Here is what I would do...Go for a Mini Inferno ST (SUPER stong drivetrain), get a LMT or Neu motor for it, use a Quark 33 ESC, and go with some good LiPo's. It should be fast as hell....

Considering the weight/power ratio, it must be a rocket.

I thought of the Mini Inferno thing, but I didnt like the chassis layout. The 18T's layout looks much cleaner and easier to work on.

Can you guys link me to all these motors? I'm somewhat a brushless noob lol...

go to www.b-p-p.com troy has all the bl motors for mini's that are worth buying imo, and the mini inferno its realy easy to do a 180 degree filp and drill new mounting holes then u have a servo and motor on one side and batt on the other, but the mini inferno is plain sick i drive mine every day and im buying a wraith and quark 33 amp speedy but with the stock layout it jumps soooooooooooooo nice and level!
