36120 or 3695 + Neu 1512 2Y/F - 01.24.2007, 04:35 AM

Hi,

I am looking for my next BL setup for a buggy & I'm considering either the BK36120 or 3695 in combination with a Neu 1512 2Y/F (1400kv) motor using 8S 4000mAH 20C lipo. Do you think this combination will work out ok ?

I've tried the lower voltage - higher current route but have only met with limited success as I live in the tropics where temperature & humidity is relatively higher.

In addition, I read that the rpm limit of the 36120 is 42000 while there is no indication for the 3695. How hard & fast is this spec. ?

Regards,
Joe Ling

I believe the 3695 doesn't have the 42k limit but its wise not to run a BL motor much higher than that. 30-40k RPM is the most efficient range for most motors.

Also, the BK controllers don't run well with 4 Pole motors like the NEU motors.
You would be beter off running a Lehner 1950 with a BK esc.

I am still waiting for my MGM 12032 to arrive so I can try 8S out with my 12XL. The MGM should arrive soon.

Is that a car or plane esc?

Work because i gotta, play because i wanna

People here hate Nitro, I love it. I start it, run it about 50 ft from me and it dies, I go after it. Perfect exercise

Its the hydro version so it should work with my Transmitter.

Hi starscream & crazyjr,

Thanks for your advice. Looking at the Lehners, I am now thinking of 1940 10 turn with a 1568kv. Assuming that each cell is 3.2V under load, total voltage under load will be 25.6V. This means max rpm of around 40K assuming no loss of efficiency. Is this a practical assumption ?

Looking at the constant amperage / power figures, the 1940 is rated at 1450W. Using the simple formula P=VA, one gets a current load of around 57A. Of course under instantaneous load, the figure would be higher. Again, is this a fair assumption ?

High amps = high heat = death of esc. This has been my experience so far. So, I am hoping the higher voltage lower amperage setup will work for me.

Joe Ling

Both speedo's don't work with the Neu motors.

Hi Serum,

Yeah, the 2 gentlemen already convinced me that Neu won't work with BK. I am looking at the Lehner 1940 or maybe cheap out & get a 12XL.

I've already killed 3 BK9920, 2 Quark 125 & 1 MGM 160. Hunting down another 9920, & trying to add a 12020 to the kill list (hopefully not though).

So, forcing myself to look at high volt low amp approach but choices of esc is pretty limited.

Joe,

I'm also after an HV setup running 8S. I am probably going to go for an MGM 16024 ESC with a Neu motor. Have you looked at this ESC?

Aragon

edit: oh, you already killed one... nevermind :o
