I'm in the process of converting a Hyper 7. Battery is a 5S2P A123 pack. I had originally planned on using a Neu 1512 2.5d based on the recommendation from BrianG's motor selector. At that time I was figuring on a total weight of 8 lbs. or less. Realistically though, I'm looking at more like 8-9 lbs. at which point the motor selector tells me to use a 1515 1Y. Is this accurate, do I really need to jump to the 1515 series if my buggy goes over 8 lbs.?

i use 1512/2.5D in my 12lbs maxx (total weight including 16cells) and the power is insane. i just cant imagine having motor with more torque and i have expo on my radio set for very slow start along with slow start on my quark.

there are ppl using 1515 in hyper8 but i think its total overkill

the calculator recommends for anything 8lbs+ insane motors in the high end :)

lol, yeah, I might want to increase the weight limit for the 1512. My Hyper 8 is right around 10-11lbs and the 1512 is PLENTY!

I also think that it depends on what you are going to be doing with the buggy. Although I don't own a Neu motor, I think that efficiency is a consideration as well as heat. I understand that the Neus run cool, but anything stressed will produce heat. If you are going to be racing the buggy, I'd opt for the 1515. I always say that too much is better than not enough.

Besides, I'm always looking for that little bit more and in the 1512 line of motors, the only real choice is the 2000kv motor. In the 1515 line, there is the 2200kv motor (the 1Y I believe). I like the torque of the larger can motors. I get a bit reckless on the track sometimes and don't drive as conservatively as I should. When I do get into trouble, like messing up a turn and not being setup for the up coming jump, the motor with more torque kind of saves the day for me.

In the end, I don't think that there is a wrong decision that could be made here. You'll likely be happy with which ever you get. If money is a consideration, the 1512 can be VERY appealing.
