I find toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil work better....I got a vid on my phone of me and my friend doing one. The neighbors called the cops cause they thought that we shot a bird with a shotgun. :005: Give me a few minutes and I'll post it...

I know. Sorry. :frown: That was only a VERY little. I am gonna do one using a 3 liter bottle instead of a 20oz. The 20oz. bottle was only filled about 1/8 of the way up with toilet bowl cleaner. :p Imagine a 3 liter half filled. :D I'll be sure to get a vid of it...

Cool video squee. That was a pretty big explosion for only a 20oz bottle. Can't wait to see a 3 liter bottle half filled. :027:

Thanks! Yea, I was pretty surprised myself...A 3 liter bottle filled half way would probably be 10-12x more toilet bowl cleaner, so I won't be in the immediate area for that one. I'm expecting a crater in the ground for that one...

Its probably some sort of chemical reaction releasing either gas or its an explosive reaction - either way its a hell of a bang.
I'd love to do elemental magnesium in water :D

That would be ridiculously crazy. I have only seen sodium in water, and it was in an about 2ft by 2ft container, and when ti exploded, it blew the top right off into the sky. Just amazing of the force when the explosion occurs.

Yea. Its a chemical reaction when the cleaner is added. Just screw the lid on, and shake it up for a second for a really good reaction, and you get what you saw in the video. :D

Pyromaniacs of the world unite! If only I had a garden I would be doing that sort of thing all day long. I find a certain 'cook book' is useful for showing you how to do those sort of things to maximum effect..... god bless america.

Magnesium in water is not as cool as lithium, sodium or potassium, the chemical reaction between usually drain-o, and aluminum foil is a very fast release of hydrogen, so yeah you can encapsulate the reaction and cause the pressure to pop the container, but the better, and funner mischief is to harness the hydrogen being produced and use it to cause a real explosion. or you can always use hydrogen to power a internal combustion engine, and there are easier ways of harnessing it besides drain-o and aluminum foil, example water and lithium, or sodium, or potassium, the laters reactions are so fast though that they produce heat and cause explosions during the reaction. its pretty cool to throw some potassium in water, because the water becomes the fuel and theres really no way to put it out
