Newbie who wants a brushless Savage. - 11.18.2007, 08:13 PM

I'm fed-up with my GP savage as it's getting to be a real PITA, so I figure I could have less hassle if it was brushless... that's all fine and well but I have NO experience in electrics at all, so I'll be needing ALL your help guys.

I just wondered what you'd recommend?

I know you guys probably get all these half-assed threads all the time but I REALLY need your help...

I look forward to hearing from you lot,

Take it easy.

Stu

How much are you looking to spend and how fast are you looking to go?

Honestly I don't know

Beating a 3 speed .32 savage is a must

Mid-range with price, something fiegao-based would be good with a fairly decent ESC

But I'm open to deliberation

I would have to say at least mid 30's?

It's probably close to hitting the 55mph mark... it's been ported and just FLIES!

55? I would like to see that.

Not unheard of newe. The think of how fast a Revo is with a 3.3. Now imagine that a few pounds heavier, witha 3 speed and a bigblock.

True, "I" have never seen a 3 spd Savy run that fast is all I was saying. My buddy has a 3.3 savy with a 3spd, it's fast no doubt. That is why I was saying....I would like to see it! hehe

To be honest, now I've got my sensible cap on (3 cans of beer later ) I'm not too bothered about the speed, I mean I'd love something ballistic but to be honest it just isn't practical...

I'd probably be happy with any set up you guys recommend.

Just one thing, I've read a few posts on here about temps, I was just going to say that where I am it's usually around 22-24*c (71-75*F) in the summer, we may have the odd hot 26-30*c day (78-86) but they seem to be getting rarer and rarer!

I think you'd be hard-pressed to get a reliable 55mph Savage with a Feigao. You could probably hit that speed with something like an 8XL on 6s with high gearing, but I think the motor would overheat quickly.

I think you need a Neu 1515 at minimum to reach 55mph reliably. My MGT with a 1512 on 6s A123 can hit 45mph, so you should be able to get an extra 10mph with a 1515 and 6s lipos.

A reasonably priced setup would be a 8XL or 9XL and a MM on 4s lipo. I don't know what the Savage gear ratios are, but you can use Brian's speed calculator to find out how fast that setup would be.

Sounds good, what about a mount and so on? I've seen Kershaw Designs one which looks good... motor seems a little high though...

I don't have a Savage myself, but several others here have posted threads about their conversions. Just do a search, and you should get a lot of information about mounts.

Sorry to double post...

But I've been recommended a 9XL on 14/16 cells with a Warrior 9920 using a fan and a UBEC, the guy said it was a tough cheap option... I must admit I'm liking the cheap bit
