over heating my monster pro

hi guys i have a brushless gorrila max revo
i run a monster pro esc with rc monsters heatsink
the neu 2700 kv motor
strobe slipper ofna 51 t spur
17/18/20 t pinions
2x 7.4 /5000mah lipos i run them in series (14.8)
g max single speed converstion
40 series wheels with mulcher tyres
the problem is it doesnt matter what pinion i use i keep getting thermal cut off wich isnt good when its jumping
the lipos/motor /esc are all getting hot
i was told it might be the motor causing this so i was considering getting a new one but does any one have any more idears what i can do to solve this problem

A FAN??? Just a thought. When all else fails blow forced air on the electronics gear. Trying a different motor may be the only real fix though. If your configuration is setup correct then maybe there is a kink in the armor so to speak. You may have a weak link in your setup??

It might be the lipos. I had a set of 5000's from maxamps and they couldn't handle the draw from the MM on my Rusty setup. I ended up puffing one and the ESC was heating up constantly. It seems the discharge rating is over rated causing everything else to work harder.

Their was a thread here not long ago about the discharge rating on maxamp lipos.
So I switched to the 6000 and now more problems.

i am running 2 fans behind the esc heatsink and 1 on top of the of the esc

hi my lipos are the nosram 7.4 5000mah 25c i thought the c rating would have been plenty i ran the same system on my 1/8 lightning buggy with stock diffsand a 16 t pinion and had no over heating isues

Like I stated earlier it sounds like you might have a weak link in your system that is causing it to overheat. Bad connections are a number one cause of overheating, bad cells, bad motor, or a bad controller maybe. Process of elimination is your only recourse. If you are setup as you should be then it has to be a hardware issue. You might want to check each component out closer for individual problems.

Q. When the esc thermals, is the actual case hot, or mainly just the wires/exposed pcbs? Also, what is the weight of the revo compared to the lightning, that would be a big factor too in determining gearing.

IMO, the 2700 is a pretty high RPM motor. I know my 4s gets warm on the 1515 1/y, not bad at all though.

To me, it sounds like you are way over geared. I would go with 8000 maxamp packs. Gear it more conservatively with that wind you have. Right now, with the Lipo;s you have, you are hitting 39,000+ RPM, which is not bad, but I would drop that a bit more and get closer to 35,000. Go to Brian's calculator and see what you can do.

I agree with neweuser, I think your over geared. What sort of driving are you doing? For normal driving I think you need to go down at least 2t or so on the pinion and see how that goes. If you have a finned neu, the 17t pinion might be the smallest you can use with the ofna 51t without grinding fins. 1/8th diffs will help get your gear ratio down a little bit or you could try the 65t spur off an Ofna Monster Pirate I think it is. Motor plate may need modifying for that to fit.

In your first post you said the battery, esc and motor are all getting hot. If thats the case then you are most definitely over geared.
