Turns out that somehow the point where the wire solders to the speed control popped out and it slid upward on the wire (there was just minor contact, which made it cogg like crazy).

I re-soldered it and set it up in my G2R and took her for a spin. Runs great - I just need to put my responses back on (current ones wobble bad) and then put a fan on the ESC and it should be good to go.
