i need a new project - 10.28.2007, 10:46 PM

hey guys im not sure if you know anything about me.. but ive been buying/selling a bunch of rc cars that i wanted to do for a conversion but none of them really did its job for me... ive tried 2 bl emaxxes, 2 bl revos, a ofna 9.5, a crt. 5, a supermaxx, an e-muggy, bl rusty, flm pede...
the list could go on forever

anyways.

i will be moving to north carolina with my girlfreind and i need something to do other than her (not meant to be dirty lol) i wont really have too many freinds so i need something to kill time!! i think there is a track so i will be able to go race and maybe make some freinds there... i am giving this project time about 6 months (thats the time when i will be moving) ive sold ALLLLL of my rc stuff (well... about 3k worth) and paid off my real truck so out of every paycheck i will be using some money towards rc. so i have a few questions of which truck to try out...

sorry about telling you my life story just thought maybe you all would like to know lol

ive been doing my best to research some stuff and find out valuable info but there seems to be so many pros and cons for each truck it is really hard to find which one is the PERFECT truck.

everyone has their own likes and dislikes... so here is mine for this project.

-when i buy my roller... i want it to be quality (xt8, mbx5t, 8ight and so on) i am looking for a truck with a very nicely beefed up drivetrain so i dont have to worry about upgrading that.
-i would like for their to be a motor mount in the rcm shop!
-i would really like the "truggy" look
-since i will be spending so much money i want the truck to run nice and smoothe without having to buy a bunch of upgrades for it...
-truck HAS to be bashable. i will be racing this but bashing for the most part.
- i would like for a semi easy project.. i do not want to spend countless hours trying to get everything on and working... i will spend time tweaking it all but ive spent too much time fixing and not enough playing!

most of these are redundant but i just want something that is going to consistantly work.

im not going to buy anything used unless it was very lightly used and ik that it is in great condition.

i have many other things to deal with other than JUST RC (like back in my prime- 2 months ago) so it will be a slow project as stated. hopefully not as slow and gorillamaxxs (i hear yours is almost completed?!!)

i want this project to be a guarantee for me to keep so i dont waste time and money into something i wont use...

here is my thoughts for a project truck
xt8
mbx5-t
8ight (heard these are primarily for racing?)
hellfire?
crt

those are the only truggies i could really think of... hmm..

anyways i was going to probably go neu... what else is there?
and either MMM, quark or mgm... dont really know much about any... ive heard quarks overheat? mgm has breaking problems? idk.

i will be using spektrum in this also.

anyways for you guys who just scroll to the bottom let me know of a awsome bashable easy conversion truggy!!

thanks alot. and sorry for the huge write up

Personally, if I had no limits, this is what I would do.

X-Ray XT8 Truggy
RCM Motor Mount
MGM 22418
Neu 1515 (choose one that gives about 35K on 4S)
4S 4500mah 30C FlightPowers (and then 6S version of the battery for all out, stupid speed runs and bashing fun). The reason for this would be that 6S is way too much to drive on a track...but would be fun to have a boatload of power for bashing...

A selection of RCM hardened steel pinions to adjust between running the two voltage counts.

Lastly, I would highly suggest using the mechanical brakes, since it would allow brake bias adjustment and would take TONS of stress off your ESC...

I would go with either the XT8 or 5T. No doubt. Or, if you want to spend more, and can get in touch with Bomb-Proof Products, I'd get a BPP LSP. There are so many difference mods you can do to the LSP that will make it an even better truggy its not funny. I.E. buggy axles, buggy upper arm conversion, etc. The BPP is amazing.

The Razorback is a UE truck and is nitro. The BPP truck was never put into production, but its possible to get one. I have one in CF.

are you serisou? its gas.

wow. never knew that

and where can i fidn this bomb proof truck?

i want to try and stay away from 6s... even 5s if that is possible. just creates more money that may not be needed to be spent.

Umm...for just the electronics and motor mount, assuming you use the two servo's I'd recommend (5955TG for steering and 5925 for brake, since its REALLY fast).

It would cost:

280 for the motor
375 for the ESC
115 for the steering servo
92 for the brake servo
245 for the 4S Lipo
360 for the 6S Lipo
Probably a good 500+ for the kit...probably more like 600+ cause its an X-Ray...
55 for the motor mount

So, assuming you get two pairs of each battery, it would be: ~$2800

Ok, well, if you didn't get the 6S Lipo, you can take off a good 720 bucks from the ~2800 price tag. So it would be more like ~$2000...

o man!! i didnt even notice you said 2 pairs of each!! i was wondering how the hell it was 2800!! got me scared! lol

i added it all up and it would be around 1800 for the way id do it.
280 motor
375 controller
55 motor mount
600 for the truck
245 for evo 25 4s
200 for 2 servos

if i had alot of money extra at the end i will ge a 2nd pair for 4s lipos.

with the 4s lipos which motor would work good?

The 1.5D would work perfectly on 4S if you never planned to use a higher voltage.

If you want to have the option to do 5S or 6S in the future, the 1Y would work.

If you planned to do 6S all the time, then I'd do the 2.5D...

well 6s is a definet no.

possibly 5s.

how would the 1y perform on a 4s pack?

mph wise?

i dont need 40mph... im looking for like 30-35

but when i want speed i want to be able to gear it up to around 40-45 if possible!

for speed runs only

The 1Y would definitely be able to push out 35mph without a sweat, especially with the right batteries. I would really go for the FlightPower Evo30's. In comparison to a 25C pack of similar mah, they are like, 5-10 bucks more per pack. With the Evo30's you would never have to worry about overdrawing the pack...
