Looking at a 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo -

Just wanted your guys opinions on this car. A guy locally is selling one for $2100 and its in great shape. Has a little rust on the front left fender, starts fine and runs. Has an 8lb turbo installed stock.
I'm personally not a fan, but the 1JZ has some potential. Nothing like the 2JZ, but it can make 350hp if you build it right. If its an automatic, forget it. The auto trannies are terrible and can't hold the power.
If the head gasket has not been replaced, you will need to do so. The turbo supras blew head gaskets alot due to the wrong torque on the factory head bolts. I almost bought one of these cars and did a bunch of research before I did. Ended up with a different car, but the supras still seem nice.
I loved my 1991 Supra Turbo! Linc is dead-on about the head gaskets. If it hasn't blown yet, it will. Once you get that taken care of properly, then they can make all kinds of power (even on the 7MGTE). They're a great touring car for long trips.
I was also planning to upgrade the turbo after I had bought the car. I am now aware of the header ordeal but hopefully that can be worked out. I found this 25-35psi turbo kit on ebay for $270 shipped which is definately within my budget range-http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts...1%7C240%3A1318
I am also insearch for an intercooler to help keep the engine cool with the added pressure/power and a blow out valve. I will be upgrading the air filter to K&N aswell for better flow.

That turbo will need an external waste gate. I wiould stick with the stock turbo for now, as the MAF needs to be upgraded before you can even reach the limits of the stock turbo. Join the Supra Owners Group and read all of their threads on the turbo mods. IIRC you can mod up a lexus MAF to work with the supra cheaply, and then just use a simple boost controller to up the bost to 14-15psi. No stock motor can handle 25psi, you would have to have a fully built bottom end, forged everything. I have a feeling that you will be suprised with the performance of the stock turbo supra, especially compared to a buick centry.
I would personally plan on not spending much money upgrading a car. I think I'm pushing it spending about 50 bucks for small upgrades on my truck. I might even hold off... When you start upgrading things it seems the car will start to lose some of it's reliability.
