Mamba Pro - for all you tech-heads - 05.07.2009, 06:00 PM

Here is the now obsolete Rev C Mamba Pro control board.

Thought the tech-heads might be interested in seeing it. Rev D was ordered today.

94 parts in less than 1sq/in. Switching BEC, sensors and sensorless control circuits, 2 switching power supplies, 2 linear power supplies, three phase bridge drivers, up to 100 mips processor capable (50 mips shown.)

That's a US quarter by the side there...

You hand soldered all of that right?

The leadless parts are REALLY hard to hand solder.

So, why is that one obsolete? Defect/not satisfied/etc? Just curious...

A couple of minor issues were found during the MM Pro beta test. Specifically, on 6S operation, we saw some issues with parts overheating on the switching BEC. We changed to a different BEC design.

Funny you should mention that -- we were just talking about it.

The Mamba Pro was really designed as a sensored/sensorless controller for the masses -- inexpensive to build, very durable. But it has a big footprint.

We are talking about laying out a much much smaller version for the guys who are always asking for a smaller controller for competition.

It would be harder to build, and more expensive... But we could get rid of the heat sink, use an external cap, etc -- and make something really small for the racers.

What do you think?

Patrick, have you come up with an estimated street price for the MM pro?

It will cost about the same as the MM. But it has a sensor port, can run sensorless or sensored or hybrid mode. The MM Pro also has a switching BEC, and is good for operation up to 6S. So how do you like them apples?

Thanx!

I have 3 high Kv micro motors that needs a good esc as most I've used don't seem to work well. I'm running a Recoil with the 7500Kv version using the Tekin R1 (Sorry from bringing them up) and I'm looking for something really small to pair them with. I've noticed there are a lot of new MOSFETs available and some are very small. I like this one http://www.irf.com/product-info/data...rf6713spbf.pdf and it could be possible to make a 40A, that's all I need. Oh and a handheld programmer with an integrated CastleLink would be nice too.

Smaller footprints are always wanted with the high end users.

I think a smaller version would be great. More of a competition series for castle. Also good to see that it will cost about the same as the mamba. That is a great deal especially for the added features.

Won't be anytime real soon -- I'm working on the MMM 8S and 12S controllers now... But give me a couple months...

I can wait. The motors will take a month or so to get done, but it could be longer if delays comes up.
