I guess I should have expounded a little more and said "macro setting of a typical 3-8 Mpixel, $100-$300 consumer class digital still camera".

The rubber boot of a Revo/Jato/Summit drive shaft? I know that's not it since the valley's are concave (not a "W"), but it's the only thing I can think of.

This is up to the OP, but I think the magnification should be listed along with the pic...
