I run a $36 Hobbycity KD 9XL motor in a Revo but as I am geared for 30mph and have mechanical brakes not motor brakes and retain the two speed transmission, I'm not stressing it, but it still gets to 130-140f. They can be run, but it's best to consider them disposable.

Kershaw stuff is best described as functional. It works, but with no bells and whistles or extraordinary machining. I'll probably get his Baja conversion since Mike's seems to be delayed or canceled.

I would like to see that baja conversion... Googled it but no pics that I can find.

As for the cheapo motors, if you want cheap get a feigao, either from Mike of OSE. As for feigao clones, they are hit or miss, and a waste of money. Buy a decent motor, and speed control and you will get good use out of them.

well, Dan at Kershaw could have had an outside firm do the windings, or he could have had a stronger or more reliable rotor built. But he didn't. As we all expected it's a dressed up feigao. His response to my query about his specs:

"In all honesty, the Feigao 580L and KD motors work on the same technology, but the KD motors have a screw on endbell as opposed to the endbell being press fit into place. If you can fill me in on the specs below for your car, I can make a recommendation on the gearing that should be sued. then your motor should last multiple RC seasons...

- Model of car
- Weight
- tires used

Should I add you to the list for those that get the email newsletter I send out?

I've contacted Feigao to make motors for me, so I can attest that they will make what you ask if it's within their capability (current product offerings, or high enough qty to make a new "size"). I'll say that KD's motors are Feigaos. I don't think Feigaos are that bad, but they do run hot. Paralyzed's example is something to really take note of...a transmission really alleviates a lot of load from the motor vs. direct drive and his 9XL still gets hot (although the Keda motors from Hobbycity are even worse on efficiency than real Feigaos). Feigao can make decent stuff if you make them do so, but I doubt Kershaw asked for anything more than their standard motor in different colors and sizes.

As for Kershaw, I've had bad dealings with him also. He ripped me off on 40% the price of the product. That sounds like a lot, but it was a small product (low cost), but instead of making things right, he wanted the few bucks extra instead of satisfying a customer and possibly having return patronage.

I don't think his motors are that crappy, but I will say his customer service is. He runs his business as I'll-get-every-buck-out-of-you, instead of other small RC businesses where they care more about the satisfaction of the customer (and are smart enough to know satisfaction means return patronage, referrals, and more money in the long run).

I'd have to agree with this based on my dealings with him. The quality of the items was fine, but the service I got was sub-par, even when items didn't arrive it was an uphill battle getting a resolution.

I dont buy his electronics stuff, but have bought some of his conversion stuff and his stuff is pretty good and customer service has been there for me. again for electornics I say no after the reviews on him, but his custom stuff is top notch like the 1/6 scale flux among other stuff.
