Advice needed!

I have looked into this and it requires a lot of parts that are surprisingly different in the smallest of ways. I would rather sell it and just get a brand new one, then I get the 2.4 4 channel as well. I will give the crawler/rock racer a go. See if that satisfies my fancy.

Another addicted cry for help.....

i feel your pain reno. at my worst, i had almost 30 rc's and now i'm down to 5. i don't think i could give up anymore without going totally f***ing batty.

my wife generally approves because i gave up smoking, drinking and drugs for rc's, but she sees it as me replacing one addiction for the 3 i gave up.

i think what it comes down to is everyone of us who has a shit load of rc's has somewhat of an OCD disorder, and it's our way finding our "happy place where we can deal".

Now, i have one gorillamaxx G-4, an FLM-maxx, and 3 losi 8ights. one i race, one is a speed car and the other is a shelf queen.

like i said before, if i had to sell one more, i might go more crazy than i already am.

for me, i just had to stop spending when i saw the bank account start to shrink.

"no more fast food, no more nickel and diming. keep what you have and don't buy anymore" is what i told myself. it helped me ALOT. i was spending tons of money on ebay and when i stopped all of that and got outside and just enjoyed what i had, i saved alot of money.


i'm not so sure for all of us it's that we're addicted to the car or truck we want. it's that we're addicted to the rush of getting something new or different. you gotta reel that in bro. no good is gonna come from impulse spending.


which brings me to my next point.

if you walked away from the job for physical reasons like your back, then i totally agree with your decision.

if it was because you were in a "funk", then you gotta re-evaluate things and know that you're a grown man and shouldn't be walking away from any job unless you have another.

as most of us know, jobs are tough to find right now.

you could always try the police academy, firefighting or civil service. alot of my friends started great careers in those fields.

I think I have come to terms with owning less and playing more. I like that idea.

I did leave for health reasons and I am kind of stubborn. I was paying a lot out of pocket after insurance for a chiropractor, I was diagnosed by my doctor that I have depression, and not to mention I lost weight when I was trying so hard to gain weight. I didn't know a doctor could diagnose depression... According to my wife I seem happier and more energetic now that I left UPS as well as the time I spent working at the LHS. My back hurts less and I have gained my weight back No, not because I have been sitting around for a month.

My wife has only a month left in school till she gets her BA. I told her that I would stay at UPS as long as I could to get us through it. I would say I came pretty close. Right now we are cruising along on fumes, literally we are watching everything and anything to do with the money we spend. Including my RC cars. I told her that I wanted to sell them and she said that I didn't have to sell them if it was to make payments. We would find other means. My response was that this was her only opportunity to tell me to sell them. I made up my mind a few days ago however, I really needed to downsize until things can turn around.

I am in a pickle but not that it is too bad yet. Give it two months and then I will say that I honestly need to consider even fastfood chains.

My wife and I are together in this. She allowed me to quit and seek out another job. Stop being so old fashioned.

I have been helping my aunt in law with her business cleaning houses, I am making small income. These days it is okay for the wife or WOMAN to make more money than the MAN. I made plenty more than her during my time with UPS and she is deeply appreciative. In reverse I am deeply appreciative for her allowing me to per take in this job search. We will be fine. We get through rough times together.

Sorry if this offends you but Americans don't have the traditional roles that other countries may have. Here a man can be a stay at home Father, cook, and even clean.

Humans can survive without lots of things for sure. I don't see many people selling furniture when times are tough, even though they can sit on the floor... It is a matter of what's important to you. Having a wife who not only tolerates the hobby, but actually partakes? Damn I know 90% of you are crazy envious of that!

Yes I am a bit old fashioned. I am American born and rasied on American values. Sure I may come accross kind of brash when it comes to this kind of subject, but We are in tough times right now. Your wife might lose her job tomorrow, then what? WHat if she becomes pregnant and has to leave her job for medical reasons? I never said give up your hobby or your dreams. You may want to set it aside for the moment and focus on whats really improtant in your life. I think its great that your wife is supportive of your wants and needs. Hell I wish more women were at that level of conciousness. Good for you, but you still have to stand up and fill the roll of being the man. My wife also makes more than I do(so what), but I don't sit around relying on her to cover my a$$ financially. And you bet that I take care of the house and keep things running smoothly while she is at work every day. I am lucky because I now work from home. Self respect. I started working at the age of 13 to help out at home. Once I turned 18 and joined the US Navy I never went one day without a means of supporting myself and that of my family situation until I retired in 1997. Call it pride or whatever you wish. Now even retired I still work so we can both be involved in the hobbies that we choose. We are very much focused on our family life, but we make sure that we have room for the extra stuff as well.

Yes I may be a bit tough on these matters, but the bottom can fall out on any of us in a second. You have to cover your six.

I appreciate the advice and it is taken into consideration. I feel the gnawing end that seems to be nearing. I understand my situation and am in and I have already done things to make repair. These times are a bit out of hand. I was at a Job fair today at the Grand Seirra, a local casino, and only 10 vendors showed up for close to 400 people that supposedly had attended. I arrived at 45 till 11 and I was probably 40th in line. Though I didn't feel I got anything from it I still left resumes with three of the vendors. There is another at our local university next wednesday that I will also be attending. My brother is going through ropes to see if he can get me a job with his work though they laid of their most recent employee, I would enjoy working for him at USBS. I am an idiot, but not a complete one. I knew what I was doing by leaving, I know what I will have to do if nothing proper comes up.

However I did get good advice to which route I wanted to take with my RCs. Looking at how so many here have so many, and knowing that so many here have went through the same feuds regarding selling or not. I have talked things over with the wife and I am going to loose most of them so that we can have some extra to put into the OS savings account. We have an OS savings account that we started adding to back when she and I were both working two jobs. It is a second savings account that has slowly grown to a decent amount that we usually only dip into for things like furniture or a new computer...

I guess I should just be grateful for having peers like everyone here that will give me the tough answer I rarely get elsewhere.

And with that I think I am pretty much over this conversation and I have a feeling others here are thinking it has dragged out a bit longer than expected. So thanks everyone for letting me tell you a little about my life story. Next time it will be less ranting.

Thanks but I think I am in the works of a trade. My caster fusion, with motor and a 2.4 for his axial with pretty equal value. I like the tube chassis look. TCS has that eclipse and edge chassis. I like that idea. Ever since I read a recent article on RC Driver magazine about a rock racer I liked the idea of a crawler that can haul.

Seriously tho, perhaps you should try opening a checking/savings acct just for RCs. Figure out what your budget is, contribute that every month, and only draw from that acct to pay for RC stuff. $ from sold items goes into there.

Helps force budgeting on people who are not great at it.

Just one thing. Go to a physical therapist instead of wasting your money on a Chiropractor. Unless you have a bone disease, or a significant injury in which your bones were unable to heal, you need to build up your muscle strength so that your joints and spine dont have to take the abuse. Chiropractors are on the fine line of being an addictive "need" also.

well put about the physical therapy. i did more healing in 2 months of physical therapy than 2 years in a chiropractor's office.

I know it's an older thread but this is the only one that was interesting and doesn't have a yes or no answer for it. Plus it had space left at the end for my ramblings and the older thread usually no one reads. So you can get away with talking about your shin splints and hemriods and feel better with out annoying anyone or them calling your house and telling on you for sniffing bicycle seat outside the grocery store.

It's tough to let go of some of the RCs you build up. It all the fun building them. Gathering the parts to make the stronger and faster. It always fun to open the mailbox and get your new parts. Rip open the box to install your new gold flanged locknuts which aren't going to make it go any faster but it gives me a reason to get excited like a kid. There for a while I think had a package every other day coming in. I enjoy the hobby and it sucks the resale value on these are so low. That might be why I still have most of the ones I built. No I think it nice to hang onto something that helped the winter months go by faster while I was putting it together. Like Harold says not many people appreciate the time and effort that was put into them like we all know goes into it. With all the RC and RC project piles I got around here there is always something to do.

You’re still plenty young and to be depressed at your age is a bit premature. You'll have time to be depressed later in life. You don't want to get up one morning and say were the f*** did the last 20 years go. Most of us have just accepted that we will be working 8 hours or more a day for 40+ years. I've got 28 years in and it looks like I will still have 20 more years to go. Now I am depressed. :) I've been lucky it has been pretty much at the same place but the jobs have changed. Have to take the good with the bad and hopefully your next job you can convince yourself the pros of the job make the cons manageable. I have never hired anyone from just because their resume was in the pile. It was the individuals that contacted me more then once after they submitted a resume. If you see a job you’re interested in let them know you want it. Don't be afraid to try something different for a while. You may like it and find a career doing it. I was in college to be a Park Ranger when I took a temp job doing data entry. Turned into a career in IT for me. Getting out working might help you feel better and fight the depression. I mean daytime TV sucks, all the commercials are for menstrual cycles, yazmin, house hold cleaners, cemetery plots, AARP, or some law firm wanting to know if I know anyone who has died while using some prescription drug. Next they will be asking if anyone I know died while driving a Toyota. Really is there anything on to watch during the days besides Barkers Beauties. I guess the Drew Carey Beauties now. Doesn't have the same ring.

If you’re selling off some rcs you may get more if you part them out. Depending on which one it is. You got some time so research eBay, keep on eye on the prices, what is listed and when. You don't want to list your RC when there are 7 others listed if you can help it. If you watch the listing you can try and get yours listed so it's not surrounded by something similar ending before and after yours does. Seems most people list for 7 days. If you part them out check out the chops shops. They have a schedule they go by and you don't want your parts ending the same time theirs does. The toughest thing for me to do when selling on eBay is to hand my ass out there on a no reserve listing. So far it's turned out fine and the price eventually gets up close to what I am looking for but they sale faster that way. I've done pretty well on the older collector RC by watching what's being sold. It good to catch an auction where there a few different bids going on then list yours towards the end of the auction with almost identical description. The people that don't win will more then likely search for another one they just got outbid on. Good luck.

I've got a bunch of projects and completed projects I need to decide what to do with too. Since I got the HPI 5b, I don't run anything else. Well once in a while I run a pack or two through a brushless but the Baja Bug hit.

Yep well I never said I was depressed the Doctor did...
I feel great and better than I did working under the corporate monster UPS. I have had three interviews in just this week alone. I am insuring that my name is out there in the job Market. I have a few tricks that, unlike others, will most likely place a few points towards my name. Ever heard of a "Thank you for the interview" letter. Yep I have only sent out two so far, to the two employers I would really enjoy working for. One of which would be extremely ideal.

As for my RC's I managed to rid myself of two and acquire two new ones at the same time... Well I traded my Caster Fusion for a really well built crawler w/Dx3r, see crawler section, and my E-Revo went for a trade plus cash for a slightly modified Mini Revo. So I am still at seven cars, but with an added 350 dollars. Not bad in my books. The only money I have spent on them was a new lid for the Crawler, CKRC baja which are thick as hell, and some new paint. I finished that one yesterday, but since it has been some interesting weather lately here in Reno I haven't yet been able to take her out.

Hi guys ,I've had depression for 21 years,it's bollocks!!! When it kicks in,so does self doubt,paranoia,black thoughts,The list goes on.I can't even go out sometimes I'll have my batteries charged ,everything! Just too down to do it. Rc helps,I get frustrated with the trucks instead of my own insecurities. I got sick dog syndrome with my mlst,it's cost £ 250 to try and get it running.And it still won't work!!!!!!.
