Works for me. That's a beastly truck buzz.
I just came back inside from an approximate 10-12 minute run with the Rustler (I'm trying to limit runtime to about 10-15 minutes so I don't kill my lipos). Everything is the same as previous tests, except this time I loosened the slipper by about 1/6 of a turn, and geared up to a 27 tooth pinion (27/87 so about an 8.764 FDR) .
Conditions:
-Night
-about 84F out with a very warm breeze
-muggy/humid Florida summer night
Temperatures:
Motor- 115F
ESC- 110F
Battery- ~110F with case on, 135F without case on bare cells
So far the Medusa+Mamba setup is great! I wish I could have tested it today when my 1:1 truck's temperature display said 92F though... Took forever to balance charge this pack (I balance charge the pack at .75 amps now since I've been pushing it super hard).
Comments:
I tried everything I could think of to get the motor to heat up. Tons of wheelies, tons of WOT passes and 180 degree turns where I'd brake to spin and then jam the throttle down to get as much current drawing as possible. Motor seems to be quite "happy" at this gearing. The real test will come maybe tomorrow or Wednesday; my vista gadget says it'll be about 87F tomorrow for my area (probably hotter in the middle of the day I'm thinking).

Nope... speakers are ok... checked that out. I might have a bad MB... but there is a driver conflict now in the hardware config settings. I just checked it again... had not messed with it for a while.
Before it would say "this device is working properly", etc like there was no problem. At least now I have some hope that I can get ti fixed with drivers or reinstall or something.
I've been too busy to mess with it... maybe I should get off the internet huh? LOL

Does anyone have any gearing ideas for a 36-50-3300V2 in an E-Savage on 12 Nimh cells (switching to 2* 2s2P A123 cells) I have an 18t on there right now and it doesn't feel any faster than the Ammo 2600. I have the timing set at 10 degrees at the moment.
Motor comes off at 110 degrees without a fan, standard heatsink as the Medusa one doesn't fit the E-Savage transmission to well, ESC has a fan and comes off at 90 degrees. Batteries (Nimh) come off at 100-120 degrees.

Anyone have any thoughts on a good safe pinion size for this setup? I have the 46T plastic spur, 4S 5000 lipo on a 8ight buggy. I am looking for a good driving setup and not all out top end speed. I think my local track is mid size and med. bite. In the Novice class were only running 10 minutes mains as well.
Thanks,

I would say a 12-14t John. That sould give you a good range of speeds through the mid to upper 30's possibly into the low 40's

Thanks for the info. I should have these conversions going before too long. I just got a PM that the RCPD EL8 conversion kits I had on order shipped yesterday.

Motor -
05.08.2008, 10:59 PM
I just installed a medusa 36-60-1600 in my losi 8t about a week ago. I am running it on 4s 6000 pack. I do not have alot of experience with different motors but I was running a nemisis xlt motor before this. This motor has plenty of power and seems to have just as much torqe and speed if not more then the nemisis. Raced a 20 min main this past weekend and temps came in at 135/motor-114/esc-95/battery. I am liking this motor so far.
