I have the 1520 in my RC8T FT running on 5S with 15/52 gearing. It isn't all that fast but it's all that my local track can handle. Heat? What heat? Everything is almost ambient. I don't even run a fan on my MMM since I broke the last one. Great motor.
Also tried it with 20/52 on 6S and it was just insane (This time I used a MMM that had a fan) and it was just great. Wheelies and front tires ballooning like crazy. No real heat on the 1520 to speak of. Say about 100-110F maybe but the ESC was a little warmer than I like to see it.
All in all this has to the best $65 that I have ever spent.
Yeah... the motor seemes to like the higher load setups as the temps were quite good through the run... If I get the chance... i'll do some temp checks and post up the numbers tonight...
not sure how long the tyres will last with the punishment they are receiving though ...
i have been running my xxl savage ONLY on 6s with my centre diff running 14/47 geared for 53mph...
My ESC -122
Motor - 140
Not bad for a 16-17lbs TRUCK!!!!! there is definitely wiggle room... I usually just keep my trigger finger pinned when running
On this run, motor temp didnt go above 130 and esc was around 105 from what i remember http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hew53NyAObo

Sweet!!
I got the truck out today... did some hard runs through grass and on asphalt for a bout 12 minutes before the wheel came off during braking... gosh, the power just goes on and on...
here are the numbers:
Asphalt - 114° F
Motor - 133° F
ESC - 119° F
I was able to run my Gmaxx a couple of days ago. Geared 44/21 on 6S with the 1520 motor was insane. It propelled the truck so effortlessly. The batteries and motor barely got warm.

Supermaxx with Mach .26

Im running the 1520 in a muggy that is pushing 14 pounds fully loaded.
center diff:14/48
diffs: xxl diffs
batts: 6s 30/40c
tires: super bolt on tires on losi 420's
esc: mmm v3
Temps are very cool almost ambient. Fan never has come on the esc while running, even in grass with tons of long full throttle pulls, jumps, etc. I cant wait to try out some nano tech batts with an insane C rating to see what this bad boy can do. Its fast now, no doubt, but not at all fast enough ;) But in my own defense, I have the punch control turned down a little and I haven't messed with timing at all...
I love this freakin motor. I took my RC8T out again yesterday on 6S through grass and dirt. Temps maybe 10-15C above ambient at the end of the first pack. Torque galore.
Few of my friends, after seeing how this motor runs in my car, want one for their truggies. Problem is that they aren't any longer available. Please bring them back Castle (I want a few spares too).
I have two 1520 new as spares, waiting in their boxes, but I don't need them, my first 1520 still works like a charm in my mbx5T truggy since one year of intense racing and bashing on 6S .
I Still have the same bearings, love the durability of thoses NMB oversized bearing

i am really going to put this 1520 to the test.
I have a brand new 1520 sitting here.. it is going to go in my 18lbs savage! Im going to run it on 9s! so near its max RPM Limit... and then we will see what this baby can really do :)
It will be pushing heavy baja rims too... So this will be a good test! Im going to gear for 70mph on 9s using an ice hv! Ill keep you posted!

Now this I like! Can't wait to see the data logs and a video :-)
If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

I'll also be interested to see if the 1520 is up to this task. I have my doubts, but I could be wrong. I'm planning on using the 1717 for my new build that will be of similar size to your savage. The 1717 is almost as big as the 1527, which can handle this size truck.
