3s+9L in a lightweight 1/8th buggy ???? - 05.04.2008, 08:28 PM

Well i come across a GREAT deal on a brand new roller at the track the over the weekend, and the only way i could afford to get it is if my whole setup out of my lightning stadium 10 will switch over and run the buggy pretty decent, here are the specs of my ls10 im running

rtr weight: 5.5lbs
tire diameter: 5in
battery: 3s 5000 maxamps
Motor: 9l with rc monster heatsink
contoller : mamba max with cc bec
geared for: 45mph
runtime: a solid 50mins to an hour.
temps: at the end of 45 mins of on track racing temps on everything was less than a 100 degrees on a 75 degree day

from what ive seen the standard is to run 4s in the buggy but these setups are so fast its crazy, my ls10 is easily WAY too fast on the track i raced at, i droped the big tires after practice for the stockers which put my top speed back at 40mph and i still had to let off on the biggest jump out there that only the really good nitro guys were doing good everylap. Im wondering if running my lighter setup would work good enough to race with and hopefully have a 1/8 scale buggy rtr at 7lbs or less if possible....the tires are lighter and smaller than my truck tires i run and id only gear for 37-40 tops, would this still let me run the buggy chassis and still get 40-45 minute runtimes and good acceleration, plus the slightly tougher drivetrain. i think my setup could handle it, i have never had my setup get hotest temp ive ever seen on my motor and esc so far was on an 80 degree days running in grass and the motor hit 115, and controller 110.

id shave off as much weight as needed if i could run my setup and still be happy, i just need some assurance that my setup would work enough for me to be happy with it agianist the nitros.
