Nope, I sent a v1 back and got the v2 in the mail about 10 days later... I did not expect to get it back that fast, so I bought another v2 over the weekend. The new esc showed up wed, the replacement came from cc on thurs... Kinda funny, at least I have a spare in case the other v1 craps out!

Dude, sorry to here about your loss. I like your outlook on life. I try to live my life the same way...things happen so you can either get upset or roll w/it, learn from it and move on. Life is WAY to short to get upset over little things.
Not to rub anything in...so please don't take this the wrong way, but, those are some pretty cool pics of the truck smoking.

Welcome over here Texas-Pete. Now the guys can't just abbreviate my name as Texas or confusion will abound.
Texas-Pete has always been a level headed guy on the TRX forums in my opinion and should be well liked here.
Sorry for the loss man! Guess it goes women are just bad drivers all around. It doesn't seem to matter if it's a car or RC!

Yeah, I just ran my TRC packs in my Villain EX, they work fine...
The pack that was under the MMM smells like horrid burnt plastic though... My whole E-Revo smells like that crap...
My guess is that when the MMM dies, it probably does short out the lipos for a split second, but the MMM melting then breaks up the short circuit.

I have heard that when a lipo is shorted even for an instant the are f....ed up. Thats the only thing I'm scared of ....ruining one of my packs otherwise I would try one of these things. Anyway let us know if your battery pack stops working ok thanks. Also you can get the smell off your truck by setting it in front of a de-ionizer (or a negetive ion generator) for a few hours...it deadens the oder molecules. I know because I bought a rare leather holloween mask from the ukraine and it smells like cigarette smoke so bad I almost gagged going near it....it works.

Nah, that must be an old wive's tail- I've shorted my packs before for a split second by touching connectors together accidently- no harm done. Many others have dont the same, with A123 cells too- a momentory short wont hurt the batts, but keepinf them shorted will cause them to puff and probably 'brew up'.

It depends what you define as a short. To me, a short it touching the + and - terminals together with a solid connection. And no, that's not good. However, when something happens to an ESC that "shorts" the leads, there are a number of resistances to consider; connectors, length of wires, PCB traces, FET internals, etc, which all limit current to some degree. So, it really is not a direct short. And when something does go wrong with the ESC where something burns up, the connection causing the short opens quickly so the short is no longer there anymore. ESC fireworks can seem to be really bad, but they are not designed to dissipate anything over ~30W. When an ESC shorts a battery, it is forced to dissipate over 1000W.
Besides, our setups can pull well over 200A+ of instantaneous currents for a very brief moment. That is pretty darn close to a "short circuit" in my book if you want to get technical.
