Like GD, I haven't had problems with the plastic spurs either. It's all about a consistent and proper mesh. They are quieter, cheaper, and lighter as well.

Also, back in the day, your typical pinion would be eaten up in short order with a metal spur and there was a shortage of reliable hardened steel pinions, so most everyone used the Kyosho spur with regular pinions.

During the "Kyosho spur" days, I started a discussion on this topic. Since then, things have changed: http://rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4383

Running metal gears isn't so bad now that we have good pinions for $10-15

Not long ago, it's was very costly to run metal-metal. I've run plastic for several years now.... racing and bashing... works for me and it's quiet.
My problem was the motor loosening up, on my Hyper 8 at least. In my Savage, with perfect mesh, I was MELTING Kyosho spurs. Like stripping, but there was never any stripping.

And for now at least, Mike is out of Kyosho spurs.

I want to use a plastic spur gear on my XT8. What spur gear did you use? Do you have a link or part number for me so that I can order some. Thank you for your time and concern

I use Kyosho nylon spur and HPI Savage Spur gears on my 18Lbs GST, and haven't had any problems.. Mind you that I use mechanical brakes... I had chipped pieces of metal stock on the bearings/shaft/can of my brushless motors. Some how, those small shavings always seem to find a way to get inside the motors. Just a thought.
