Cool thread. - 12.13.2010, 06:02 PM

This is a pretty cool thread. It gives everyone a better idea of what kind of people we are. Its nice to see what some of us do for a living, and at what level of life we are living without getting too personal. Life seems good for a lot of people even with our economy being so bad off. Merry Christmas to all.

Added info as suggested by James. I will turn 52 in Feb/2011.

Not fond of steel either. My main is 'concrete tilt up panels'. I do the layout/lift design then go and lift it when it's ready. Biggest job I had was 210 panels and I had a 250t crane lift it from 3-4 positions. A job when we get back from xmas has 44t panels. Had the salesman ask me if we could lift a 70t panel, I had to ring a few companies to see if it was possible. I really like this job but the work is sparratic. Supervising the whole job is better as your always busy. Being in this industry I hear about cranes toppling often. I like watching other rigging jobs as well, like that chinese multi story youtube that was posted and the TV show called monster moves.

Age 35. Another small consideration for money spent per month (on top of what PBO said about exchange rate) is shipping costs. I reckon you guys in the US get more bang for buck.

A) Where do you live
Under the I-90 Bridges at the bottom of Sunset Hill in Spokane, WA DOB 1/22/1967 (Didn't ask for the DOB but thought it might help exlpain the upcoming ramblings of an old man.)

B) Where are you employed (or in what field)
System Admim- IT Specialist (The Title seems to changes very often, but the work has steadlily gotten easier allowing me more time to remember WTF they are calling me this week.) in the good old U.S. Government, more specifically (but not really) the DOE, but that's as far as I can discuss it. You understand, National Security or was the Sexaul Harassment. They should hold those training classes on different days. If the neighbors should ask I work for the DEA (M-F) and the ATF on the weekends otherwise they ask if they can get free electricy also (must think I get it free) and help keep the questions about Area 51 and the Grassy Knoll to a minimum.

C) How long have you been employed w/ the company? If I remember correclty I think I was 17 when I started there so about 26 years at the same location/DOE but have wore many different hats (and changes of underwear) during that time A story on it own, but there was a breif period of living free (no underwear) but short lived. It just didn't sit well with me or for that matter I didn't sit well without it. Tweenty years ago you never would of convinced me that I would be the typical government (no offense but Postal Employees excluded from typical) employee staring out the window all day wishing I had an Indian Reservation I could put a freaking casino on. Tweenty of those years I was only a contractor for the DOE. Yep, the red headed step-child that was looked down apon, ridiculed, and treated like dirt and made to do the work of others as they laughed an counted the days until retirement. Once I was "Converted" from CFTE to FTE all that changed. Kind of like finally making to your Senior year in Hight School. Your turn to treat the contractors the same. I have to tell you guys I am loving it. lol Anyways it still boils down to just cuz you want to try and earn a paycheck doesn't mean they will let you. Hell, look at the time. I have two breaks I still have to take and use the restroom in the next 4 hours and by the time I am out of the bathroom after my second break is over. It will be time to blow out of this place. Hell, I always tell them. If I do that work today, you wont be seeing me tomorrow. OH, yeah. There was no federally owned computer used in any manner while composing, typing (backspaces included) or posting this information onto any internet weather local or foriegn. How does that go.......

Sent from Guys Blackberry.

that should cover my ass...

D) What is your job's income bracket (totally optional, I know its pretty personal)
I read Jeffs and his said
"You Hate me." It took a minute but after I thought about. I did start to hate him...lol Misery loves company so.....
You guys hate me too. Problem Is I hate me too (sometimes). Hell some people forget I have to pay taxes too. It just pisses me off that I am paying myself to stand around? Talk about a reason not to get out of bed to go in early. Just lay there and get pissed of at yourself and debate the situation. If nothing is broken why can't I just go home? We only get two channels on the tv at work and they just make me sleep. Which any veteran Govt. employee can do with eyes open and shallowed calm breathing. Actually I did my time on the road, every week was heading to different locations. So it is nice that technoligy has finally caught up with my concept of s a stable operation system. Now I can relaxe and let the contractors do my work.

Hell, unlike the IRS I can't lie and take your money. Okay I am not sure if the IRS actually needs to lie to take your money but.....I am not actually at the dreaded and hated #8. It's close though, I am talking only 276 miles close. If I was in Seattle where Jeff lives the locallity pay increase would have me driving a big nice TURBO Deseal truck and supporting 3-4 ex wives. Cost of living over here is cheaper and there less stress so we don't get paid more to compensate for the shorter life expectancy. My income actaully is #7 on the bracket, but you guys would hate me if I was more ambitious and lived in Seattle, WA. or typed shorter posts.

E) How much money per month do you spend on "hobbies" every month? To be honest I have never paid attention to were all money goes. I use to blame it on booze and women, but putting my wallet under the pillowed made me realize that is wasn't the booze or just one women it was all of them and they were taking it straight from my bank account and not my wallet. Hell talk about unfair, they got half the money and all the pussy. Your suppose to know where you money goes. Help for.... well I forget what but it does help. I am sure it has something to do with a rainy day. Not paying attention is why I am sitting on a real fat nest egg right now. WTF! Where the hell did that nest egg go? I've been putting my pocket change in that oversized BUD Bear bottle for years now. Never once dipped into when I wasn't drinking. So much for early retirement. Damn, if only I had a reservation to put a casino on.....
The one thing about long posts is only 1 out of 10 users are going to actaully read it so you can really get a lot off your chest. Almost like throwing a empty bottle in the ocean because... well because it's empty Einstine. Fine print is to tell you that the post is actaully not that long. Just looks longer because I increased the font size. Also, you don't need to read it unless you bored at work. You can pick out the bolded sections to reveal the mystery of Gee. Yes, I know too late......

Well at least we know your synical now. That was a hilarious post Guy. I'm sure it helps to have a very strong sense of humor in order to survive in your line of work, and doing it for the Gov is never easy. You must be a real Hoot to work around. Gald to see you have not stopped visiting with us here on RCM, even if you have decided to get rid of most of your R/C collection. The things we do for women... I sure hope for your sakes that it pays off in big dividends.

(A) - Guelph, Ontario, Canada, population 130k
(B) - Guelph Transit, transit bus operator (hail da bus driver) I used to work in high paying factory work. The last one was a well known cigarette plant. Really good money there but they closed shop and moved to Mexico. I was 42 at the time and thought that I can't keep working in factories and loose my job every 5 to 10 years because they go belly up or move somewhere else to get some cheap labor. So I thought I should look at what the city I live in has to offer and applied for a bus driver job. They hired me, the fools. So now I drive people around for half the money I used to make but I actually like what I'm doing now. And if I get bored going around in circles then I work overtime on what is called the ''Magic buses''. This was organized by the University of Guelph with the help of Guelph Transit to get the drunk students from Downtown back to the University on the weekends. I should film what goes on in the bus and start a porn website. ''Girls gone wild on the bus''.
(C) - 5 years
(D) - just a little more than between 4 and 5. With the wife's income, we're at number 8. We're doing ok.

(E) - No idea, I should keep track of this stuff I know but I'm scared to know you know. The last build I did was last summer with the brushless LST XXL. Spent 2k in a month on that. Now I just got myself a RC helicopter. Already spent 1.3k on that and it hasn't even flown yet.
(F) - Married with one kid (boy) and two little dogs.

No brain, no headaches.
