Help Me Choose a 12s Motor for 20+lbs savage

The 6mm shaft on the leopard is stupid... Just like the old kb45 motors.

Mail it to a machinist so he can turn it down to 5mm. Used to do that to the kb motors.

But you can use rough sandpaper and motor connected to ESC and than run the motor on that sandpaper.... Could work.. .so if i do decide on the leopard, ill give that a go...

But i think i will run my 1520 for now. It was doing so well before, i will just gear the pinion a little smaller (bit worried about running a 9-10t) and up the voltage to 9s and see if it can handle it... If not, then ill just get a new one...

What is the worst that can happen if a motor blows? will the esc and batts blow too?

I turned a 1717 6mm shaft down to 5mm using a few hand tools. I have a thread with pics on here somewhere.

If you have a drill press you're better off taking the rotor out and using the drill press to spin it, no debris gets in the bearings then. Just mark the shaft where the bearing rides so you don't go too far.

You have enough room in between the TVP's for a 56mm diameter motor? Leopard has a few other 44?mm diameter motors in long lengths with various kv's that might be easier to squeeze in your chassis.

Not sure if those kershaw pinions are hardened well enough to use in the application you have.

A 10-12t pinion on a 54t steel spur is going to rotate 5 times per 1 rev of the spur. So you will get 5 times the wear if you consider the same material. So the pinion will have to be 5 times harder to resist wear.

I would turn the shaft down and use rcm pinions. There are none better than the rcm.

Here is a 1300kv Tacon in 5mm. A little fast and under sized but the price is in experimental range.

Sorry, its 40mm that I was thinking of not 44mm diameter. There is a 42mm model, but thats because they add some "nubs" to aid in cooling like a cc/flux motor. Kershaw has a 40mmx82mm 1030kv Leopard for $108usd, so they are out there. The 40mmx74mm motors are alot easier to find though.

it looks like a solid motor, and comments say it is for a heavy 1/8 or light 1/5 which i guess i fall into perfectly...

Does any one know smeone who has used this motor? Any comments ? For the price, i would consider it... also it is more guranteed to fit inbetween my tvps when mounted.
Also has a 5mm shaft...

but only hanldes 3500watts... is that enough?

My suggestion is to just run 8s on the 1520 motor. That's what I would do anyway. Keep things simple while still having crazy good power.

Thanks scarlet... but if i want to run 8s, i would get the 1717... I want to get the most out of the 1520. I will put 8s through it too but i will be running 9s....

I suggest 5692 size / 2y for 6~8s , 3y for 8~10 s and 4y for 10s up ! 44mm motor Torque output may not be enough .
