Personally, and this is just my opinion, but I think Gorillamaxx got wise. They figured out that since the products sell so fast they can't hardly keep them in stock, he can up the price and they will still sell as good, and they make more money doing so...

It is too expensive indeed. Then again, for the size, and even considering the production volumes of lots of RC parts, they cost alot, ALOT more than what they are worth. FastLaneMachine is pretty good cost wise, considering it's CNC machined, aluminum, and moderate production volumes.

Gorillamaxx can reduce their prices alot and still make a very good profit. They say on their website that they re-invest into their company for research & design.... yah, come on, how much investment does it take to make that stuff? For something that is inherently relatively weak. They can make make a much stronger chassis with a 50 gram increase, IMO. I mean what's 50 grams overall the entire vehicle? :032: Not much, you definitely would not notice it.

i'm looking at a very large, very nicely machined piece of 7075 aluminum with a titanium coating, for less than the cost of this mount. a whole chassis! it's the traxxas upgrade chassis for the jato. waaaaay more work went into the chassis plate, it has more material to it, and has higher quality materials (the ti coating). granted, traxxas has them produced in much higher quantities which helps keep the cost down, but sheesh.

so i too agree that it's too expensive for what it is. even though i bought it. :rolleyes:

but that jato chassis is much smaller, it is 2d meaning only one deck while the gmaxx has 2, skids, and much more intricate and time consuming to make and this chassis is twice a popular. that is why the jato chassis is cheaper, but mostly because it has less material, and this chassis gives a custom look while the jato chassis is the same chassis only silver, and 7075 metal.

sorry... i meant i was comparing the jato upgrade chassis to the G1 single motor mount in terms of materials to cost ratio.

I agree. If people will continue to pay whatever price, why shouldn't they increase it?

On the single speed front, a cheaper way to do the conversion is to just buy the coupler (like I did)- granted you dont save any weight or space, but you dont have to hack up any parts either, and can always go back to 2-speeds if you so desire. I do like the new G1 motor mount though, its just overpriced.... unlike my version that was free!

i converted my stock to single speed by taking out 1st gear (and the idler) and adding 3 bearings to the output shaft in it's place. 2nd gear isn't continually engaged though - so i like buying the coupler and using that.

i didn't know you could buy the coupler by itself though... ?

You could do on the old site, but they are taking their time to get the spares section up and running again. Its a good compromise-the coupler on its own only cost me $12- yes, just $12. I simply removed the dog thingy and shifter fork, then pressed the coupler into the face of 1st gear (my truck is heavy so 1st gear needs to be used with 17/66 gearing)- remove the bearing from the inside face of the gear and the coupler just presses in, simple.

makes sense, and seems like a great addition to a stock conversion. now i'll (im)patiently await the coupler on the gmaxx site...

unless gmaxx raises the price of the coupler to something like $25 on the new site. grrrrrrr....
