The 8s is plenty of motor for the truck, but you would need two motor and controllers to retain 4wd(already mentioned). You would also be best with two battery packs. This would be an expensive undertaking for this truck, and there aren't a lot of upgrades(if any) available for it. Tamiya does build stuff pretty tuff for the most parts, but I would choose another vehicle for the brushless project myself, unless you are very handy and are willing to make what you can't buy.
