What's funny is the Castle people read this forum right? So now all they have to do is look for returns coming out of Chino, CA. or around that area. A smoked Sidewinder for instance, and cut that hobby shop off. I bet your boss will be proud of his best employee then.

Lets just say that the should rename the company to MinVolts, due to their new "super puffed" cells!
It is probably good that I am not in their advertising dept.!

You ever said or did something and then sit back and go "crap. that was bright" :)
This is the point where the value of a second chance comes into play. Forgiveness, the hope of change, the building of a man, all that positive stuff we need in order to let a wrong go without consiquence.
I for one am greatful to every person who let me slide when I did something to them that would have warranted recourse. I am truely a better man for it.
(notice the halo? hehehe just kidding. I'm not done with stupid mistakes just yet :)
If I could only draw what I see in my head, then afford to build it, and finaly get to play with it...

Yeah. Letting somebody slide is always a good thing...when they demonstrate integrity and stand back and say..."okay, I did screw up. I will handle things like this differently in the future."
No sign of that here. I would have thought that the--long ago--prudent path would have been to cowboy up and take thy medicine early on and say "hey. yer right this was stupid." Instead, we have occupied this thread and the instigator has moved on to other posts/threads within RCM!?!?!?!
I had a similar lapse in judgement once upon a time...and the guy I worked for kicked me in the @ss so hard it lifted me off the ground...I had chills up my spine for days...thought my tail bone was shattered (steel toe boots do that ya know). Anyway, I am ashamed it ever came to that...issues/problems only get worse with time.
I just don't get it.
Oh well, I guess its not my place to judge...thank the lord and your lucky stars that it was only a toy car esc...and not something more important.

I'm sure he's sitting back wishing it would just go away at this point. Manning up is good, but hard when you feel like a dork. He'll come back some time to see what this thread sais, if only out of curiosity. He can see then what he should have done, and just like learning not to do dumb stuff he'll also remember to put out fires when they are just an ember on his jacket :)

That sounds better than just laughing about it, like it didn't matter at all cause you will just ship it back to CC and make them deal with it.
If there's a lesson learned then that's cool. But you do see how a lot of people get upset with abuse and theft etc that costs everyone in the end.
BTW, if there was an honest mistake and something smokes... that's different. The issue here was that you seemed to know it would very likely fry it and did it anyway cause "it's not my dime"
There's a lot of people here so it can keep a thread going for a while :)

You are going to be okay wildman. We all make mistakes...its knowing we made them and trying to fix them that sets apart the men from the weasles.
On another note...I have been in the RC hobby for what I consider to be a long time and I will tell you this...these guys in RCM know their stuff. In fact I will take it a step further...they (I am mostly referring to the Mods and guys with 1000+ posts...I'll call them RCM veterans) know it better than anybody in the industry-trust me I have searched high and low for a knowledge base this strong. Its up to all of us to try and do our part to maintain the quality that has been established by the hard work of our longstanding RCM veterans.
There are a lot of management types from various vendors that recognize the quality of this forum...and as such, they read these pages and pay attention to what we say. Lets make sure we maintain the standard so that they continue to listen...or at least take us more seriously than other folks in other forums.

I agree with what has been said, since drkros replied. If a lesson was learned, great. What bothered me was the haha in the title and the "Oh well whatever" attitude. the fact that they put it back in the box and a defective tag made me a bit upset.

i did not know it was going to go like that. i thought it would work fine. but i was wrong. or maybe it would work just i have to use a bec. but i still dont see the point to use a bec if its over 4 cells cause im running 4 cells on my emaxx right now and its doing great. i found anohter esc and put that in it and it works great.
so i dont see how using a bec would of not make it smoke.
but yah i have learned my lesson.
also no point in sending it in cause i got a new esc (the same one for like 30$)

If the internal BEC is only good for 12 cells or 3s (like the MM) its a no go for 4s. My MM's would run fine with 3s but 12 cells NIMH it would cut off intermittently, this was with the MM

You punched the throttle on 4s with a motor much larger than the ESC is designed to take. I doubt it was the BEC that smoked, although it is possible. In the instructions it says 3s max with the 4600 motor (which is quite small). They do write instructions for a reason these days, did you take the time to read them?
It doesn't surprise me at all that it smoked. What surprises me is that you were going to pass your clearly out of warranty action as a factory defect.
