hmm, ive noticed mine got hot (150-170) on the track after a 6 minute race, in a 4kg bugggy (1512 2d, 4s). i then did a 15 minute main thingy, and after the 6 minutes i came in every 2 laps to check the temps. it peaked at around 8-9 minutes at 178F which i thought was super dooper hot, so i ran a real easy lap and next reading was only 162F... again i did a normal lap and it was 150F...

im really confused but it seems like driving style makes a HUGE difference, in the space of 3 minutes (2 laps on a huge track) it can cool down with a gentle finger... so im not really concerned now as i know it seems like it hits the max it will go then levels off... which is good. even running around the yard at 10mph gets it to 150F after a few minutes. i think they just like a certain temperature and unlike feigaos, they stay at the temp for their entire lifespan!

gearing down didnt help so i just geared up again :)

I have been having a lot of problems with my MMM with NEU motors. My setup is as follows:

Losi 8ight T-
Tekno RC bruhsless kit (clutch/mechanical brake setup)
13/48 gears
Mamba Monster Max
NEU 1515 1.5d
NEU Engery 4s 5000mah 25c lipos
JR 9100t and JR9100s servos
Airtronics 2.4ghz receiver w/ M11 Transmitter
10 guage wiring througout

Losi 8ight B-
Tekno RC bruhsless kit (clutch/mechanical brake setup)
14/48 gears
Mamba Monster Max
NEU 1512 2.5d
NEU Engery 4s 5000mah 25c lipos
JR 9100t and JR9100s servos
Airtronics 2.4ghz receiver w/ M11 Transmitter
10 guage wiring througout

I got 3 MMM, two for use and one for backup. Well after only using each once! All three are back at Castle for repairs. Castle has told me they have stopped production/shipment on version2 untill further notice. They said the problems they thought they fixed apparently are not fixed.

My 8ight T on its maiden run at the tracks, lasted about 20 minutes and the lipo cut off kicked in. These were the temps:

Motor= 130's
ESC= 130's
Battery= 120

I took it out the next day to run up and down my street and it died after 5 minutes. The ESC would not light up unless I unplugged it from the receiver. I of course swapped parts around to make sure it was the ESC and it was. The only way the ESC turns on is if I disconnect it from the receiver. CC said they have seen this in about 5% of the new v2 batch so please return to them for repair.

I took the Losi 8ight B out for its maiden run at the tracks, and after about 20minutes it died. Brought it back in and temps were as follows:

Motor= 130's
ESC= 130's
Battery= 120's

I thought it died because of lipo cutoff, so after about 20 minutes of letting everything cool down I took out a fully charged lipo and as I was plugging it in the ESC went up in flames! Turns out one of the capacitors (3 total) blew up. CC said this is because the ESC was working too hard to keep up with amperage draw because the battery was not enough. I thought to myself, with a NEU 2050kv motor and a $250 NEU 4s 25c 5000mah lipo if this is too much for the ESC to handle then the ESC's got problems! But they said send it in and they will repair.

I took the Losi 8ight T out with the third ESC and after 5 minutes the car died. Brought it in and turns out the top half of the ESC fell off from the base when I was driving and it tore out the power swtich and fan connectors to the circuit board! Again, CC said this was a design flaw they are working on to fix!

So I waited like 5 months for MMM v2, just to play with all three for less than an hour and have to wait another few months!

Above is just food for thoughts for those considering MMM. I dont know, maybe Im just bad luck? If you guys look at my pictures on the link below I went out of my way to make sure all wiring and cabling is as solid and clean as possible! Heat was obvisously not an issue with these three failures.

Your temp gun must be out of whack. No way will a Lipo get to 220F and not have issues.

skellyo,

You are free to call NEU or CC and ask about battery temps. You can also search the forums on battery temps. Keep in mind also this is after 20 minutes of run time. The link below is the temp gun I am using, I am assuming its a good temp gun.

skellyo,

My BAD! I just caught my own mistake! All temps should be in the 100's! Thanks for the correction!

MMM sttings:
Brake/reverse proportional w/ reverse
Brake 50%
Reverse throttle 40%
Punch 0%
Drag brake 10%
Start power high
Motor timing 10
Throttle curve linear

batts: 116F

well, i just finished running mine until lvc cut (just shy of 20 minutes).

batts: 124*F
esc: 133*F
motor: 157*F
ambient: 82*F

it's now geared 24/65 = 42mph with 0.5" ballooning radius.
the fan was on it.

looking at your MMM settings mkrusedc, mine are just about 180* out.
MMM sttings:
Brake/reverse proportional w/ reverse
Brake 40%
Reverse throttle 40%
Punch 100%
Drag brake 20%
Start power low
Motor timing 0
Throttle curve linear

looks like you set yours up to haul @$$ and i've set mine up for low temps. i think i should try it your way.

I am using 51/20 gearing, no fan. I'll post a vid latter as soon as I get it edited. My Mashers balloon huge!

i changed the timing from 0 (lowest) to 5 (low).
after 5 minutes of running, the temps are 10*F cooler. (130*F with the fan)
i was going to keep going but my efforts were tabled because a 30' long cartwheel that led to a bent CVD.

i hear your pain. i am on my third MMM and i had one that the capacitors blew up on me too. anyway, here is what i have tried on my third MMM and it has ran for a few hours now, glitch free. thought you might want to try it. so i opened the casing on the MMM and removed the fan. this is real simple. just use a small flathead. removing the fan is just unplugging it. then i put the case top back on but i cut the top off so that the entire heatsink is exposed but the ESC still lookd clean. it looks like it was made this way now. i cut off the casing to ensure plenty of air gets to the heatsink. this is on a Losi 8B with the Tekno VC3 conversion also. to ensure air gets to the ESC i have the front window on my body cut out with an outerwears filter/screen taped over from the inside. this ensures air gets thru but dust doesnt. anyway, i ran it all night in racesa the other night and every time i checked, it was cool to the touch. i could hold my finger on it. felt about body temp. didnt have a temp gun but i would guess it was about 90 degrees. anyway, after 3 it is hard to buy another one but this has worked. also, i have heard from the tekno guys that version 3 will be out in a couple of weeks. good luck.
