Your talking way over my head . i guess i'll have to have someone come over & do it for me . Thank you for trying to help .

lol, it's really not that hard. Most people make it harder than it is.

Honestly, if you are happy with the way it looks, then you can leave it alone if you want. All this is to get the text to be crisper, so it's not "needed". It's not like the driver is gonna unlock some type of hidden porn channel or anything (suicideneil would have told us about that if it did!)

CRT's tend to smoothen edges a little because of the way they work. LCDs use actual tiny squares of light to build an image. So, it makes sense that if your resolution isn't set right, text looks imperfect. Look at it this way, if your res is set to 1280 pix across but the LCD has 1600 pixels across, a 1 pixel line will actually take up 1.25 pixels. (1600/1280=1.25), but it has to be either on or off, so it would probably be 1 pixel (depending on if it rounds down/up correctly). On a straight vertical line, this is sorta ok, but curves start to look bad. I hope that made sense.

rchippie, I can help you using Cisco MeetingPlace. It's a product I use for work to remotely assist customers with their servers.

If you want, just send me a PM with your e-mail address and a good time you're available, and I'll set it up.

Word.

It's free

I got it done . My friend from sarasota called & tolled me how to do it . Sean told me to click on the icon . My friend told me to click on a blank screen & not a icon . Once i did that the right screen came up . so i was able to change my resolution . Brian i tried it a 1600 but when i did that it moved the icons to the very edge of the screen were i could barely see them, & it seemed to strecth the inmage to much . So i droped it down to 1280 & they are right on the edge were the should be . Now my screen looks right . Noww i just have to play with the color .

I never said an icon. I specifically said:

Go to your desktop (your main background itself, not the file location)
Right Click on the desktop

The directions were clear to me.

Actually, to be correct, it should be set for 1680 x 1050 (according to the Newegg site). If you set anything other than that, it won't be right (stretching vertically or horizontally).

Depending on the age of your video card, that ratio or high resolution may not be supported. If all the video shifts to one side and nothing else is visible, I suspect either 1) the vid card doesn't support that resolution, or 2) you have to reset the LCD's geometry (v/h alignment/position), or even 3) you have to set the vid card refresh rate to 60Hz, and maybe a combination of 2 and 3...

Sorry for all the confusion and headache - just trying to help you get the most out of your purchase.

Yeah, it's probably a bit too old to support it fully. That LCD is rather an odd ratio; 1600 is more common. It's ok though, as long as it looks good to you!

Whatever doesn't blind you.

Seriously, it depends on the LCD. You want black blacks, white whites, and natural colors that are consistent and even across the whole screen. Even though there are only a handful of manufacturers that actually make the LCD panel, the way each implements the circuitry to drive it (along with firmware/software) and the backlighting method is different.
