I would love to have higher speeds like most of you guys, but I have DSL at over max range (over 18000 ft). The "standard" DSL is up to 6M speed, but because of my extreme distance I can only get lower speed. In fact the only way I got DSL this far out from switch, is because a friend of mine knows the area supervisor. I called him up and asked to try it even though I am almost 1000 ft over range.

Is there some kind of repeater or booster they can add somewhere in between? Might cose a pretty penny if it's even possible, but if you're that hard up for speed...
Your ping results look pretty decent though...

It certainly beats dial up (OMG who uses that anymore?). Pages actually load quicker at home (this connection) than they do at work with a much faster connection.

My iPhone has 180kbps download and 27kbps upload

Just about everything beats dial-up! Before my g/f moved in where I have cable internet, I set her up so she could use her Palm Treo as a modem hooked to a PC. It wasn't the best (latency was kinda high and was download limited to a 17MB for a single file), but even that was better than dial-up.

Cool. Most of you have a very good connection. I heard Comcast was gonna be upgrading their line pretty soon, too. The high-speed service will have up to 50Mb/s DL.
Hey Bdebde, do they give you any discount for the slower service? Ya know, since you know a guy???
*edit* New test:
10ms ping....

My desktop should have the same results, right? If not the slow speed is computer related?

If you aren't using a wireless connection, then your speed should be a lot higher. It could just be the settings on your LAN card. You could try setting a static IP, or disabling some IE services/functions. Like you said I doubt it is spyware, but you should scan anyways. An easy way to tell if there are programs hogging bandwidth is to open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and click on the "Networking" tab. If there is a lot of activity and you aren't DL'ing anything ( ) then your computer might be sick...

0 activity. I think its just crap service and nobody knows better than to complain to comcast. I'm paying $45 a month for that.

Give them a call on Monday and say you are unsatisfied with the speed. It could simply be poor coax wiring somewhere.

That's on a wireless connection on my laptop, with about 80% signal strength. Good enough on the download, just wish that upload were faster
