Neu 1512 vs. 1515

I'll be interested to hear how that runs with the MM!

Believe me, so am I. Since I smoked my Quark yesterday, and my Compro hasn't come back from the Czech Rep. yet, all I have is the MMs to run it with. I'm hoping that the wire upgrades and the cap mod will help it out some.

You can use Brian's calculator. I plugged in some numbers but you'll have to confirm the diff ratio and spur tooth count. I came up with 15t/46t on 4S for 35mph.

Guys, you do realize you can use the "Export Values" button don't you? It's not as pretty once you paste the results into your post, but sure is a lot easier than taking screenshots...

Thanks guys, 14/46 puts me right were I want to be on pinion size. I don't like running those ultra big or small pinions. Even still, I'd imagine that going 18/46 should put me right at stupid for clowning around; or maybe 16/46 on 5S lipo.

I just got the email letting me know that my motor has shipped. I suppose that I should have it by Wednesday or Thursday. That'll give me a day to see if I can get it race worthy for the weekend.

I'm kind of excited about this.

OK, I got the 1512 in the truck and took it out and ran it. What can I say? I should have listened. When will I learn? Either I got a bad motor or the 1512 1.5Y just isn't enough motor. The performance of the 9XL far exceeds that of the 1512 1.5Y. The XL has lots more torque. Maybe the 9XL that I got is just a stellar performer.

What voltage were you running them?

4S lipo. I was using Kokam packs so it wasn't the batteries.

Would this motor be a good application for a 1/8 buggy? If yes, then I'll buy this motor from you.

I burned up my Plette Max, so I need a new motor. The RPMs seem a little high at 3200 for a buggy application. I am just strating to look into these Neu motors. I know GD has been running them forever...

rotary, the more I mess with this motor, the more I am convinced that I got a mislabeled motor. I wanted the 1900kv motor and I think I got the 1400kv motor.

When I first installed it, I geared it for a 1900kv motor, which was 14/46 and ran it on 4S. I was very disappointed with the performance and thought there was something wrong with the motor, but the more I ran it, the more it looked as though all was well. Good temps and solid performance, although slow. I decided to gear it up so I went 16/44 on the gearing and it really woke up. Now I'm almost up to the speed where I was running the 9XL on 14/46 gearing, but the temps on the esc, battery, and motor are significantly lower.

Now at this point, I have myself convinced that I got a 1400kv motor, so I decided to try a 5S lipo pack and things really came to life. I left it geared at 16/44 and ran it hard for about 5 minutes. This would easily have driven my Feigao to over 200*F, but the Neu was at 160, the esc was at 135, and the battery was ambient temperature. It was wheeling everywhere in the dirt and grass with good smooth power. I was actually able to ride a wheelie by controlling the throttle. It's a very responsive motor.

Still in all, I did want a 1900kv motor, so I'm thinking of sending the motor to Neu for inspection. If you are interested in it, I suppose you could buy this one, and I'll send you the receipt with it so that you'll have a warranty.

Oh, what controller are you running? This motor doesn't work as well as it should with a Mamba Max. It will work well with either a Quark or MGM Compro.

I do think that it would be a good motor for a buggy. It's plenty fast enough for running on a track, with the proper gearing. You just won't be able to attain any insane speeds with it. I think that you'd need to go to 6S or higher for insane speeds with this motor.

The good thing about the 1400 kv motor is that you can run 5s or 6s battery amd gear "correctly" for awesome runtimes. If it were me, I'd be looking at running 5s or 6s A123s, but you'd probably be better using a properly rated ESC.

Only problem with A123 is in a 5s2p or 6s2p (4600mah) setup is that the batteries take ALOT of room. I was considering going to A123 on my buggy for durability and to get away from the track owners whining about lipo, but I cant find enough room on the chassis for that big load of batteries. 5s 4600mah A123 takes as much room as 5s 8000mah lipos. I can fit a 5s 4350 lipo easily, but comparible mah in a123 is bulky to say the least. Just cant seem to figure out a good layout for the A123s.
