Like alot of guys I purchased a NeuCastle 1518 1800kv motor when they were on sale, and it arrived today; here it is compared to the Gmaxx's existing MedusaResearch 36-80-2000kv motor:
Just got to trim the wires down and solder on some 5.5mm bullets, then figure out my gearing- gonna gear up to compensate for the slightly lower kv rating & to make use of all that tasty power on tap; nearly dwarfs the Medusa..

LOL, You think that is being dwarfed. I had a Medusa 36-70-1600 and Bought the 1520! Now that is seriously dwarfed. I will post up some pics in my thread later on and link ya... To think we paid half the price for the CCNeu; that a Medusa had cost us.

 True & true.
Everyone was so excited about the Medusas, myself included- Neu Quality at ~half the price. Now they are all but extinct and Castle have taken over the reigns of Neu quality motors at... well, 2/3 the price ish; cant say no to a bargain- the sale Castle had is just the icing on the cake

You will like that motor in your truck!
I know because I love that motor in my truck
Let me know once you find a gear ratio that works for you (together with a final gear ratio of the whole truck), because I'm still looking to find the sweet spot with that motor.
And by any chance, do you have an idea what it would do to the steering of an e-maxx if one would place the steering posts 5mm further back in the chassis?

Will do- I have the weekend off so hopefully it'll stay dry.
I think moving the steering posts wont hurt anything as such- you'll just have to tweak the turnbuckle lengths as it will create a bit of toe-out otherwise, but not much.

Well, I'm not sure if it won't hurt anything.
If the posts are further back, the toe links run at a steeper angle to the steering linkage.
Try to imagine if you were to turn right, for example, the right toe link might collide with the inner side of the rim, you know what I mean?
That's what I'm worried about.
Don't want to waste that gorillamaxx skidplate by drilling "wrong" holes into it.

Looks great Neil!! Thats a big motor. It never occurred to me that the Neu design diameter was 3mm bigger.

Hmm, good point. I suppose it would depend on the amount of clearance there now at full lock, and whether you use offset rims etc. You could always do a mock-up using some stiff card or scrap of thin plastic, just to get an idea..

And the rest The can itself is 39.98mm, but with the fins its 41.78mm. I did some late-night soldering last night and fitted the 5.5mm bullets & mounted the motor- I still have a fair amount of adjustment before the motor hits the tranny case, but it is noticably less than with the 36mm diameter Medusa. Also, I had my largest pinion ( 24tooth mod 0.8 ) fitted already it seems + a 70tooth spur, so I will dig through my parts tubs and see what smaller spurs I have in order to gear up; currently its 34mph according to the calculator. 64/24 will be better, but 58/24 will give me 40mph again- we will see what I've got & what will fit/ mesh...

So its 36 vs 40 really.
Jofreak: my chassis from HCR comes standard from the factory with steering post farther back than 5mm. It really works out well to help the turnbuckles from missing the shocks or shock screws.
Although you should probably carry this conversation elsewhere. Like your thread.

I would agree, but last time I tried that, I didn't get any reactions at all

Sounds good!
I want this space for supporting the lower front suspension arm in the rear part of the arm. Because this is the only weak link left on the truck.

Bleh, just been playing with my spurgear collection to see what will fit & mesh- stuck 24/64 on there at the moment but I hate this stupid 3906 slipper mech. So....
27tooth pinion*
HotRacing double-up slipper mech
7075 hard anodized slipper pads ( x2 sets of 3 pads )
I still have the modified input shaft parts from the failed first attempt at using the 3905 spec slipper; with these upgraded slipper parts it should work just fine this time around- no traxxas monkey-metal to fail.
If it is sunny this weekend I think the Madbull will get an outting instead as I have no faith in the slipper on the Gmaxx holding- middle of my 70tooth spur is a bit melted from the carpark video...
*I would normally always get my pinions from Mike, but International shipping rates for just one ~$10 pinion is too much on this occasion..
