I thought about doing this. It will knock off about 20-25 bucks. Best thing I have found is to buy a hyper diff from ebay. Seems cheaper than buying parts, and you will end up with a spare spur or crown gear, and the stock outdrives.
If I sold the conversion parts they would be the adapter, modded lower gear, modded output shafts, spacer, screws, and shims. I am looking to do some of the simple work myself, to keep the costs down. I f this is really popular, I may have to find someone locally with a cnc and have them make a batch. It is not a very complicated design, trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Just dropped off the parts to the machinist again. This session should be enough so that I can offer up some teaser pics. Looks like my design will work, but only time will tell. I have found a very strong way to mount the lower gear to the adapter. Hopefully it will stand up to the power...

How many internals does the savage diff cup have? Looks like 6 spyder?

yep, 6 internal gears. Pretty much identical to an ofna diff, except it uses 10x16 bearngs insyead of 8x16 in the ofna and most other 1/8 scale buggy diffs.

Ok, well this is a start. Depending on the diameter etc, if one could make a solid traxxas diff gear, and put a grove in it to fit the savage cup, this might work.

Are the diff gear Modul 1 ?
I made steel drive gears for my Wheely King and they were Modul 1

Ok, for this to work better, my design needs a bit of work. My current adapter will require about 1/4 of the width of the lower gear to be removed, and the same amount removed from the idler gear so that it will clear the diff case.
I am not too sure what that will do to the strength of the tranny... The use of a center diff will place less stress on the tranny, so it should be ok. I will have to do extensive testing (bashing)!
It would be nice if I could find a 33t nylon gear that is solid in the center. No luck on sdp/si, not sure where else to look... Any help would be appreciated!

It may, but will require some machining to mount it to the adapter I have designed. The traxxas diff uses the output shats to support the entire lower gear and diff assy. My design is correctly suppoted by the adapter at one end and the diff cup at the other. Superior in that respect.
I would have to see the traxxas gear, but looking at the space available in the tranny for the diff, it will be difficult to get the lower gear to line up with the idler. I think that I can get aways with some simple tranny case mods, and a modded idler.
My method of mounting the lower gear requires the adapter to be a certain thickness. If I could find a suitable gear that had a solid center, I could get the thickness down alot and maybe get the gears to line up perfectly with no mods to the idler...
I will continue with this design until I can get my hands on the traxxas center diff gear. I can design another if necessary!

Whats the tooth count on the Revo center diff?I have a Slayer and it says its 2nd gear has a 38 tooth.Does that sound right.I would have thought Traxxas would have just used the stock Revo 2 speed and just changed the spurgear. Link is there a way to fit this concept center diff into my Slayer? If so pm me and I can prepay for 1 of them.I assume that the E Revo trans isnt compatible in the Revo?Slayer. And if it did couldnt a guy use it instread of a conversion motormount?Just curious.
Thanks Will

I believe the nitro revo cd tooth count is 28T while the erevo/3905 emaxx is 33T.
Check this site Linc. They sell composite gears.
https://sdp-si.com/eStore/
Go under "Gears" and then click on the "Composite Material, "Spur Gear".
Do I get a discount if you find what you need from this site ?

You are in the std section, not metric. No mod1 33t plastic gears on sdp-si, already checked. I can give you the 1% trying-kinda-hard discount!!!!
You are correct with the revo and erevo tooth counts...

I am not sure if the erevo trans is a direct bolt in, but people have put them in trevos, so it should work the same in the slayer. I cannot belive that traxxas changed the tranny case and the output gears on the slayer... Oh well, I am sure that they will offer a center diff for it. If you really wanted a center diff, swap in a nitro revo tranny and just use the traxxas center diff kit. The just run the 36t spur and a large pinion to take care of the different internal ratio...
