Those bored motor mounts look great, nice fit.

When I was buying stuff from GCM a couple years ago the exchange rate was in our favor so seemed like there was a nice discount on everything. Not so much today.

Ok guys, here's how I mounted my ESC:

I have the PRC extended mount plate so I have a lot of room. Problem is the center drive cup hits the bottom of the ESC if I mount it too far back. Luckily I have some spare 1/4" polycarbonate which I used to make a stand for the ESC.

My OFNA hex adapter came in. I've had a set like this awhile back and it lasted me almost 4 years. No doubt it's better quality than the Integy ones.

For you guys with the machinery and know how, you can probably get these to fit on the stock stub axles. The only problem is the pin hole is about half a mm off from a perfect fit. Since I have my Savage 5T shafts coming in sometime this week I'm going to take the chance and do some dremel work on the stockers to see if I can get them to fit. If only the inner carrier bearing was a bit smaller in width it would allow the axle stub to come out more and let the pin out further!

The last picture is of the barrel nut that came with my Integy adapter. Not sure if you can find these elsewhere but that would be an extra safety that would hold the pin down to the axle if I ever did get them to fit the stockers.

Well, decided to give old Integy another chance here. Picked up some 12mm extended 17mm hex adapters. Looks nice. They feel really light and give me a not-so-solid feeling. Everything bolts on nicely though:

To be honest I only got these as a backup for the Savage 5T axles I'm waiting for. The 5T axles are dropping right in whenever they get here.

Oh, I finally ran into some issues. My pinion will not stay on. I use blue loctite and its been dried for a good time now. Managed to loosen the pinion on my first hard acceleration. I guess I'm going to red loctite tomorrow. Here's the irritating part. I have to remove the motor to change the pinion. To do that I have to take off the CF skidplate. Did that. Loosened the motor mounts. Ok, no space to pull out the motor since the ESC sits behind it. So I go to take off my ESC. No go. The bulkhead plate covers over where the screws are. So now here I am having to take off the whole rear end just to remove a pinion off a motor. I'm sure this TVP design is very sturdy but the trade-off is accessibility.

Call of Duty: Black Ops comes out tonight so I might just put this on hold for awhile. Anybody play?

Personally I think you'd be far better off with the Savage XL axles than all these crappy extenders.

maybe you could find an outer bearing that is 1mm narrower?

Yeah I thought of that or add some spacers to the inner bearing if it didnt cause any binding between the cup and the dogbone. I've actually been running these 2nd Integy adapters the last few days and they've survived a few jumps and cartwheels.

Finally - 11.18.2010, 12:32 AM

My Savage 5T axles finally came in last week. 2 whole weeks using express shipping. At least they came and they are the real deal:

Here they are with the package of spacers

The OFNA adapters have a 12mm offset. When mounted you can see that there's almost a 4mm gap to the bearing.

These 3/16" spacers (3.57mm) fix that issue.

With the spacer on it's a perfect fit. No binding, no play!

I can't take credit for the axles. I got the idea from whattheFLUX over at Savage Central who confirmed that the axles were a fit.

From what I heard the Savage 5T was discontinued in the UK so who knows how long they'll have stock of these axles. I just wish I didnt have to spend what I did to get a 17mm adapter fix.

Been bashing the past few days and so far they've held up to mild jumps and a bunch of cartwheels. For those interested ambient temps are at about 70 and on 6s, 44t/20t, badlands, I'm getting 130 degrees on the 1520. Not bad at all. I dont think I have a need to try to fit in the 1717 maybe unless I feel like running my Big Joes or Trenchers.

One thing I was wondering about was the wheelies, which are non existent. I can't do them at all. Not that they're needed or anything, but it'd be nice if I could pull one on demand. I'm a Savage noob here. How do you guys tighten your slipper? I'm spoiled with the E-Revo which had a hole at the end of the shaft which I could stick my hex driver in to keep the shaft locked while I tighten.

Hold the spur gear with your finger

Also I didnt know HPI made a savage 5T? Got a link? EDIT: nevermind I found it. Why didnt you also get the 5T 17mm hex's? Then you wouldnt have had to mess with the spacers and stuff.

Yeah holding the spur with my finger I cant get it tight enough as it's slipping a lot right now. I have to take off my botom skid, remove my motor and esc just so I can tighten my spur. Weak.

Oh, the 5T hexes are 23mm BTW, plus I wanted a little offset.

You can also try putting a penny between the pinion and spur to lock them up so you can tighten the slipper, a penny is soft and wont hurt the gears but im sure you would be ok using anything really

nice job on the axles...

for the spur, if you really cant tighten it enough... unscrew the 3 screws that hold the top part of the tranny... and then grip the spur really tightly with your whole hand and then tighten the bolt...

Thanks bro. I pulled it apart yesterday and it looks like I smoked it!

Planning to do the same as soon as I get a new slipper

Spacers came from aluminumspacers.com
They have just about all the sizes you can think of. Pretty cheap too!

Those axles look very much like the old "FireHammer" axles. Are those 8mm shafts? If they are the firehammer axles are probably about the same size and are a lot cheaper.
