Alright you guys, new update... Talked to lutach today and hes getting me a deal on a 5th scale brushless setup for a fair price. 80mm x 105mm outrunner with 90% efficiency and 176kv along with a 100a HV 10s ESC. I cannot wait to start this project.

Now the only problem is how I am going to make a mount that will handle the stress of the torque the the outrunner puts out and not bend/deform without spending a fortune...

Hmm.. We should compare notes on finished vehicles.

Rather than go with a motor and esc designed for RC products, I'm going to use the 100-amp 48v speed controller and Hall Effect throttle normally used for pocket bikes (total price $45.00). Since the throttle assembly itself is $5, I took one apart yesterday and think it's definitely feasible to use the normal throttle servo to control it's motion. Since I already have (2) 6S 4000mah Lipos, I'm going to use them in series. Just scouting for a nice 1/5 chassis to put all this stuff in!!

I certainly don't mean to hijack this thread. Reading it gave me the idea and I figure I'll just follow along for the sake of comparison. Obviously we'll all benefit from different ideas being posted.

Kind of hard to resist combining the two hobbies since I've dabbled quite a bit in both.. here's some pics of the brushless motor/controller I'm using in my fastest pocket bike now. As well.. here's a modified version of the $45 controller running at a slightly higher voltage..

Wow you guys! Looks great. That outrunner is the size of a 3040 or a 2215!! (Basically the 2 best choices for 1/5 conversions)
Should do very well!

Takedown, that is one sweet looking outrunner! Is that Axi or "?"?

Killajb, that's an E-Tek brushless right? Do you use the full 15HP in that pocket bike of yours???
