This is why I like linc's posts as compared to others who just try something a couple of times, don't really test it throughly. then claim how great it is. (the others part is mainly referring to people on other boards, no this one)

This is one of those sites I read about 1000 times more than I ever post. There is always a lot of information on here, and a lot of detail. This is actually one of the few sites that doesn't constantly flame people.

As far as trying to get 60 takedown, is there a specific reason you are using the 8xl.

I got my pede (full FLM widened and lengthened, MM, 5700kv, 3s) up to 60. I think it was geared like 19/86. The nice thing about the MM is a controlled the punch and modified the throttle curve to help keep the front end on the ground and didn't have to use weights. It still wants to try and fly though. However, I have since grown bored with it and it is on it's way out the door although I will keep the MM ESC and sell everything else.

If you are still on the plastic drive shafts don't worry, mine held up fine.

Edit: oh yeah and that was proline street hawg tires.

I agree this has been a very good read. I knew that the VXL wasn't made by Traxxas, but I wasn't really sure until I ran it, which it ran like my old feigao. Pretty powerful but still lacked. It has been a great car for me so far (3rd brushless believe it or not, thought I would know a thing or two by now :P) but I wouldn't mind going a bit more. The one thing I like about it though is the fact it has flexible wires, unlike my last feigao. Do Hacker motors have a similair wire? As the solid wires on my last Feigao were a pain. I guess my questions are a bit noobish, but i've been away from the brushless talk for a while now.
Thanks
Matt

You may be able to get 80 bucks or more for it. Try the guys on the traxxas board, and tell them it is better than the vxl!

Thanks for the kind words! I try to give as much info as possible, although most of it is seat of the pants feel. I figure that temps and top speed are handy in comparing, but the intangible feeling of power and controlability are more difficult to describe.

Hey Matt, the hacker motors are much like the feigao in that the wire that exits the can is part of the internal windings. The thickness of wire and the fact it is still varnished makes it difficult to bend. That is one thing I like about the traxas motor, the slolder plate is good for the rear mounted position in the pedes and rustys. Plus the end cap helps with damage. I may even buy one of these motors, and test in on 4s. That way I can run it on a mm and get a decent comparision to my 12s motor. Try to remove as many variables as I can!

The reason I want to use the 8xl is because its the only motor that is suited for 5s that I have at the moment besides outrunners which wont work.

That's cool, I have no doubt the 8XL will sling it to 60 and beyond on 5s. I just wanted you to know it could be done cheaper.
