Well i got the first of a few incoming packages today. I recieved my Xray CD mounts and HB CD.

Should be getting the cf in a few days, and i ordered a custom motor adapter plate from Mike to suit the 1527's 4mm screws (awesome customer service ). Also have 3 44t kyosho CD spurs coming and a set of black anodized Dace servo clamps. I think ill try and make a cusom motor mount out of the 3mm cf i have coming before i hack up my Gmaxx single mount.

one last thing, if i got a Hyperion 610i, would i be able to charge 2 3s batts at the same time by making an 2-1 adapter, or do i need the 610i DUO for that? cos the 610i is rated for 6s.

i'll keep you posted

Got some pics for you guys...

Just installed my Dace servo clamps and let me say, if you have $15 burning a hole in your pocket, get some, they are awseome. Also got a pic of the sheet of cf that i got for the CD.

Haven't made too much progress on the CD as im still waiting for some parts i need for the mockup ie. motor, spurs etc. Anyway here are some pics...

Im also going to get an Upgrade RC carbon fibre skin for the OFNA wing, should look trick. Still can't decide on a radio though, Nomadio REACT, or Spektrum DX3R. I was going to get the Spektrum, but to get telemtry such as speed, temps and battery voltage i think you have to get another seperate kit , whereas the REACT offers those readings, which are really the only ones i want... oh well

thanks for looking

Updates!!!! - 05.12.2008, 03:15 AM

hi everyone,

ok, been a while since i last posted and i have made some progress on the build.

First up, i got a CF wing vinyl from Upgrade RC for my OFNA HD wing, and it looks awesome, also got some RCM decals and JConcepts decals. I redid the front lights and grill on the body because i got sick of the stock stickers, (10 points if you can guess what lights they are) and on the right side it now says JCONCEPTSilluzion instead of illuzionJCONCEPTS. if you look at the past body pics you'll know what i mean. Anyways...

the wing

the lights, went for the 'angry eyelids' look

ok, now to the centre differential. I recieved my 1527 adapter plate and kyosho spurs from Mike, (thanks alot Mike!!, top notch stuff) and could get the first stages of the CD happeneing. I cut out a mounting plate for the diff to sit on out of CF, and have a rough idea of how the motor is going to be attached. Unfortunately i can't make much more progress until the motor arrives as i need that to mock up the exact placement of the CD unit and motor mount. Here are some pics:

mounting plate, you can see i botched up some holes and had to make them a little bigger, can't be seen when its bolted on anyway.

1527 dust cover/adapter plate from Mike

Bottom plate mounted

Have some pics of roughly how i think the CD will be placed, and if you could imagine a motor coming off the pinion and mount, thats about where it will be.

thats about it, now i just really need that motor!! Also good to hear that the MMM's are going alright, maybe a bug here and there, but that should all be sorted by the time i end up getting one

thanks for looking

hopefully soon, i ordered the motor a month ago, but i think Neu is pretty flat out producing motors atm. The lead time is usually 2-4 weeks, so fingers crossed the motor will be here soon.

then i need some Neuenergy lipos, which i think are also on backorder everywhere a DX3R, MMM and a charger and i should be ready to go. I'll need to pick up bits and pieces as well, i don't know what they are yet, but as you would know, RC is never as easy as 1 2 3

jordan

P.S, forgot to mention, i need some custom centre drives from Mike, but i'll have to wait till the CD is fixed until i can get some measurments

That's incredible! I'd go with some different LiPos though because from a purely aesthetic point of view, it seems they would look a little strange with the red shrinkwrap in that gray/silver truck. Maybe get some Polyquest or Flightpower packs?

Nice truck! Looks like its comming together nicely. Whre did you get the CF wrap for the wing?

Also, if you dont like the color of your lipo packs you can always just buy some black shrink wrap from maxamps and put a black cover over them. I do this with my packs not for looks, but to get one more layer of covering on them. Then when it starts to get a scuffed and starts to tear and such from use, you can just strip the our layer and reshrink it again. It keeps the manufacuteres wrap in better condition for longer.

Thanks for the comments guys

Good idea with the (non)coloured lipos, the reason i decided Neu is because they have a 5000mah 30C pack, whereas the 30C Flightpower only goes up to 4900mah, probably not a huge difference there though Might have to consider that shrink wrap idea of jhautz, it would look alot neater with black packs.

As for the CF vinyl, i got it from Tower, search through the manufacturers for 'Upgrade RC', they make loads of different vinyls for wings, radios, wheels, even pit chairs!! It turned out alot better than i thought it would!! They make a whole buch of different designs as well, so yeh, check it out.

thanks for the comments

Hay Jordan,
Where is your battery tray?? Are you fabing one up out of the CF sheet you’ve got or what?? I'm just confused at the moment why you built a center drive plate when the stock trays will provide you with protection in that area??.

I don’t mean to analyzes your truck, I just love looking it, these things just pop out (sorry)

Have a great one

Shaun.

i had to read that a few times to understand it, then i looked at the pics and was like, aaahhhh

im still going to be using the gmaxx lower plate, i just had it off to fit the CD mount, and didn't get it back on for the pics. It was really only a mock up in the pics, you can see that i only have four screws holding on the plate instead of eight, and theyre all different lengths.

I had to make the CD plate because if i mounted the CD on the 'floor,' (lower gmaxx plate) i wouldn't be able to get clearence between the motor and the upper back plate, if that makes sense... also, the 44t kyosho spur fits EXACTLY in between the frame rails, like perfectly, not even half a mill on each side to spare, so i had to raise the CD for clearence there as well.

i think i've answered your question , if not, please feel free to clarify. Im open to any suggestions/questions/comments/criticisms, after all, it can only make the truck better.

thanks

Couldn't you mount it on the lower deck and just move the whole diff assembly forward?

Like this. This is my G2R Revo with one of Dafs center dif mounts in it. The diff is totally forward and allows the motor to sit low, almost in between the rails of the chassis. With a little creativity you could probably get it even farther forward on a Maxx. With the revo you start running into the shock positions that cause more problems.

Here is an earlier incarnation of it with a 1521 just to show you that a longer motor will fit. I would think that on the maxx you could find another 6mm to fit the 1527 you are planning.

that is one slick setup jhautz, i love the swaybar braces coming off of the sides of the mount, and I see you've already predicted and rebutted my first question/argument about the size of the motor

Does daf still produce these mounts?? looking at the design, i might still be able to use the Xray mounts i have, and just make a motor mount to fit the motor.

jhautz, how do you like the CD setup compared to the e-maxx tranny setup?

A sweet looking design, i'll definately look into it, thanks jhautz, and also thanks the Shaun (TDC57) for bringing up the topic

i've just been playing around with different placements of the CD on the lower deck. Having the diff placed exactly where i see it in the pics, just before the front upper gmaxx plate, the diff hits my servo saver. Maybe the steering assembly on the Revo is a little farther forward than it is on the Maxx??

When i move the CD unit back far enough for the SS to clear, the bottom of the spur hits the lower deck. Maybe Dafni's mounts position the diff a little higher up than standard buggy/truggy CD mounts?

[EDIT] i think i know whats causing the problem. Due to the Revo's suspension setup, the bulkheads are located further away from the chassis than they are on the maxx, thus the steering assembly is also further away. From the third picture down, i can tell that there is a fairly long driveshaft. On the maxx, the dogbone would only be around 2cm i'll get some pics up shortly

[EDIT 2 ]

sorry for the crappy pics, my camera doesnt take good close ups. Please let me know if im doing something wrong here, i would still love to mount the motor low down in the chassis.

thanks
jordan

If your front dogbone is that short, it should in theory be bulletproof because there's not much that can bend or break. About how long would your rear dogbone have to be?
