Current setup:

1. 24s2p A123. Sometimes 28S2p A123. Cooler weather 22s1p 5000mah lipo.

2. Magic Pie Golden motor, external controller version. Using 4mm bullet connectors.

3. Lyen 12fet sensorless controller.
Options added at time of order: Cycle Analyst connector, Cruise control connector, USB interface, two voltage setting jumper.

4. Cycle Analyst with external speedo. The current version can handle higher voltage and saving up for it w/associated controller to handle 26S lipo on the same motor.

5. cruise control interface

6. Half grip twist throttle

7. Added precharge resistor for zero sparks.

8. 9 speed freewheel with the smallest tooth being 11T.

Lipo setup uses ec5 connectors. A123 setup uses ec3 connectors. I got the battery bag at Bicycle Barn and the rear rack at Performance cycle.

I want to have nicer Schwalbe Big Apple tires in the near future.

Goldenmotor.ca
hub motor

I got the Cycle Analyst, throttle, cruise control, sensorless controller from Lyen of Endless-sphere.com. He is located in San Fransisco.

Mud guards from Performance cycle and REI.

Freewheel of Ebay.

Hope this helps.

I got me some new tires. These are 26x 2.3 Michelin Pilot sport. Ride is way more comfortable at speeds over 30mph and can take corners alot faster.

I made a monster cap bank for my bike. Bike is way more responsive now at launch and no more power cutoff at startup. I used 19 100V 1500uF caps.

Very interesting. When I first spotted the CAP bank I was thinking what in the hell is he going to use that one. That would be one hell of an R/C addition. Anyway great idea adding the CAP bank to you ebike. I guess that was cheaper than just getting one big of two medium size CAPs to do the same job? I just saw that there are more & more applications being thought up for using CAPs instead of batteries now. If only they could get the speed and high power of the CAP combined with the longevity of a good battery. That would make for a very good energy storage unit. Thanks for sharing your techniques, because I am learning all sorts of stuff through some of these home made ideas.

I wasn't having issues when I was running lower voltages. It's when I started going up in voltage that I was having throttle issues. I had to gradually increase my throttle to get up to speed. Not an issue in zero traffic, but kinda annoying in heavy traffic. Happens with both lipo and A123 power source.

I always wondered what the ampacity of solder wick was.

I wondered that a while back when I was using it to beef up some PCB traces. So, I "rolled" it so it was more the shape of typical wire and estimate it to be roughly equivalent to 16GA wire. As for the exact ampacity, do the math (how much v drop do you find acceptable for a given length).

Brian,

It was more of a joke between me and Romano.

Well that was interesting. So what was your top speed during that run? Next video you need to add some kind of mirror so we can see the traffic behind you. It was a little nerve racking watching you change lanes not knowing what was behind you. Also it would be nice to see your telemitry during the run. Nice smooth ride though. Looks like a fun way to travel to and from work. I am considering the same method since we live about 9 miles from the US Embassy here in Prague.

Top speed was 35-36mph due to the headwind. I do have a mirror, but you can't see it in the video. I would need to relocate the Cycle Analyst to make it visible on the camera. The camera is on the right side of my helmet.

I was glad to see you wern't trying to go down H.S. Kohrville. That is a death trap for bikes. I see a guy riding his bike down there every day and I see how he always has to pull off. At least you can pretty much keep up with traffic.

Jeff

I only ride that H.S on Saturday's. Too damn scary during the week. Speeding big trucks, Nascar drivers, running deers, deep ditches and zero shoulder.
