Well, I got a voicemail saying that the 36-60-2000 is out of stock from rchover.com, I still have to call back. Do you guys think the 50mm 2200kv motor would work well in an RC8 on 4S? I'm thinking I'd like to try it but I'm not sure it will stay cool. Even the Neu 1509 is 53.3mm long, while the 1512 is 60.9mm. What do you guys think?

I'm running the 4800kv 50mm long V2 in my Rustler (maybe 4lbs. or so?) geared 25/87 (9.5:1 FDR roughly), and the thing gets to around 130F after a hard run in the middle of the day (mid 80s; I'm in South Florida and summer is starting to set in with a vengeance). I don't know if that's even close enough to be a comparable load, but the little bugger can pull some gearing (I'm going to try 27/87 in a few minutes; hopefully my lipo won't hit cutoff from such a large load).

Sorry that rchover is out of 'em; the thingy said it was "in stock". They LIED!!!!

Ok, so I just got back inside (yeah, I run my truck late sometimes...that's why I picked electric...). I had the truck geared 27/87 (8.764:1 FDR roughly), and holy crapola! I ran for about 13-15 minutes before I decided to go back inside. Here are my results.

Conditions:
-Night
-Slight Breeze
-75F-78F outside (let's say 76F)
-Lots of WOT passes, wheelies, rolling wheelies, a locked slipper clutch, a donut here and there

Temperatures after about 13-15 minutes:
Motor- 108F ()
ESC- ~98F
Battery- 115F (outside of case); 130F (bare cells out of their case, pushing them a little hard I think, but it's staying relatively balanced with cell 1 being 3.764v and cell 2 being 3.761v)

Mamba Max Settings:
-Low start power
-6.0v cutoff (2s lipo)
-Normal timing (10 degrees)
-Proportional throttle w/ reverse lockout
-65% brake
-50% reverse throttle
-0% drag brake or punch control

This little motor is a beast! (According to my simple speed calculator, the truck was good for about 40 mph when voltage fell to about 7 volts, so at the beginning of the run, the truck was probably good for close to 45 mph- it was freaky fast at the very least even though the speed calculator isn't perfect.)

RChover is terrible for that!! I avoid them when possible.

I'm running the 36-50-3300 on 5s A123's in my Emaxx with no heat issues, been running under 120f.

I just ordered a Nue 1512 2.5d for my Emaxx, so the Medusa will be moved to a 10th scale all alloy truggy once the MMonster is in hand. I expect it to be awesome in the truggy though, it's much lighter than the Emaxx, but it will be geared to go faster as well.

How did it go?

I have order it on 1/5/2008 from them and they send me email with Reference Number (Receipt) but They did not send me a link for order tracking yet!!!

Do you means they sell something they don't have?

well, what I saw there was all the different sizes listed in a dropdown, but under the main generic heading it said 5 items available. So who knows which sizes they actually DO have in stock ?

You can't really compare a Rustler to a 1/8 buggy, even if it is a fat one. :)

The guys at tekno... think the 50mm motor will do ok in a 1/8. But I'm going to do a 60mm if I try one. I can't see how an "S" size motor can do as good a job as an "L" can, esp when we had to run "XL" size with the chinese brands.

But they (tekno) are running the 50mm. If the car is light and made for the track (30-35mph) maybe it's ok.

True (the Rustler is starting to get "fat", even with all the RPM parts on it). Just trying to give an idea of the load the motor can take though; more or less for those thinking about trying it in a 1/10 vehicle.

i run my 36-50-2200v2 in my e-savage, which is about 4.3kg/nimh 3.9kg/lipo...
thats pretty close to 1/8 scale weight...
my 36-60-2000v2`s home is in my lgt [well above 5.2kg/12lbs]...

4pole motors are typically comparable [torque-wise] to 2pole motors of 20-30% more length [kv assumed to be identical]... thats only a dumb general rule of thumb [pun intended] learned in the early days...
not that i would suggest a 50mm motor for 1/8... on the contrary, i fully agree that 60mm is the least i would pick for most 10-15lb 1/8 conversions... hence my 'wishes' for 75mm medusas for 'beasty conversions' [read: cen gst, mammoth mt,etc].

i think i am the first of the 'truck guys' to buy and run medusa motors, so that may be the reason i managed to get a 36-60-2000v2 along with my 36-50-2200v2 back in march: there wasn`t much of demand for these back then i guess... directly from medusa and they were in stock back then... both 36-50s and 36-60s...

a word of notice; according to medusa, very few distributors have the v2 batch... most carry v1 motors, which are a quite a bit less efficient than the v2... which is an extra reason to order directly from medusa imo...

Hey guys, the 50mm Medusa ran great yesterday. Motor got to 160 at its hottest (after 15 min of practice) but mostly stayed around 140-150. Top speed was great on 4s (I was running Hyperion 5350mah 16c and MaxAmps 6000mah 20c packs) and it also had plenty of torque. My setup weighs in at about 8 lbs (I'll get an exact weight of my setup by Monday or Tuesday) and it had no problems pulling it. That may be a little heavier than other conversions but I run a clutch and mechanical brakes. My gearing was stock for the Losi, 13/48. The only problem I had was the endbell started to come out after the first qualifier. I tapped it back in and ran CA around the seam and had no more problems with it throughout the day. I qualified 6th for the A main and quickly made my way up to 4th where I was battling the only truggy that showed up to race that day. The top 3 were really good drivers, one is sponsored and lapped everyone twice so I was really happy to have a battle for 4th. At the 7 min mark my buggy slowed and sounded like I stripped a spur so I pulled it off. The center rear driveshaft popped out of the center diff cup! I was done, I thought about trying to fix it (it was a 20 min main so I coulda made up some time) but I took some video of the other 2 brushless 8ight's running (they finished 2nd and 3rd). I will try to get it posted today but it might not be until Tuesday. Unfortunately I couldn't get anyone to get video of my running the Medusa but one of the other brushless setups was running a 1509 2y (1820kv) and he had a little more torque but on the back straight I could just walk away from him, but he was a better driver so it didn't matter, lol.
Anyway, it was a fun day, good testing. If there's any questions about my setup or the other 2 brushless guys I'd be happy to answer them. I may have a pic up later of the motor mounted up.

Sounds very good.... impressive for such a small motor.

Rustler: while it can't compare directly toa 1/8 buggy, it can still be a good way to compare in general. If you compare against other motors in the same vehicle... medusa vs neu or medusa vs feigao etc... or normally run 1/8 buggy type motors in it, that would be good info I think. Sorry if I sounded too negative before.

You didn't sound negative; I know what you mean when it comes to comparing one motor vs. another in different platforms. I will say that the Medusa compared to my 540 8s is like night and day. The 540 8s wasn't a terrible motor (got to around 160F-170F), but the Medusa just kills it in sheer torque, power, smoothness, and overall efficiency (130F MAX on the motor).

You guys are killing me! Im thinking I made a good choice on getting a 36-60-1600V2 for my Revo. It was delivered Friday, but now i have to go to the States for the next few months so i wont be able to do anything with it :(
When i ever get it going i will try to provide some useful info to this thread.

I am looking to find a cooler running solution for myself. currently I run a wanderer 9xl, that motor is 74mm. So I am a little concerned with a 60mm upgrade? Can anybody compare the Wanderer to the Medusa 38/60/ 1600V2. My other option is the Mega 22/45/1E Still 60mm but 6 pole, If I was to go to the Nue, I think I would get the 15/15/1Y or 2d

So which of the three would be the best choice with Money considered
Medusa 36/60/2000 or 1600
Mega 22/45/1E
Neu 15/15/1y or 2d
