I don't know about that motor.. looks like the Tower Pro one... sure it has reverse.... but you'd have to manually change two of the wires on the back of the motor.. :)

Just get a Warrior or MGM controller....

dabid 09.29.2005 02:00 PM

But they're so much cheaper! Just kidding, I know I ultimately will, but hey, this thread is bound to be useful for someone out there. :)

MetalMan 09.29.2005 06:33 PM

If you have a shortage of cash, then don't spend anything on something that will just take your cash and not give anything in return! Instead, you could keep your Schulze 18.61k and just run that if you want a controller with that sort of amp rating.

aqwut 09.29.2005 07:01 PM

hahhaa... Don't buy that esc... my 7xl arrived today... and I just fried that esc... and I also fried my 18.129...
I put 6s lip on the 18.129.. and it just smoked...

next esc will Be 40.160WK... everybody.. let's get one...

Rtsbasic 09.29.2005 08:05 PM

You put a 7XL on one of them cheapie controllers? I'm not suprised you smoked it! That sucks about the 18.129 though.

I think the $50 ones may be suitable for a touring car or buggy with a 380 size motor if you have programmable radio gear to overcome the plane neutral point (or can put up with it). You can't beat a quality speed controller though.

aqwut 09.29.2005 08:35 PM

Yeah, gonna send the 18.129 back.. they'll probably charge me $200 for repair.... so that means I'll have a $200 credit towards my 40.160WK.... maybe 3695 without the rpm limit....

Well, that was the point. My bro has a digital 4ch airplane radio, with the 1st channel (throttle) without a return spring. I was messing with it, and it wouldn't be that hard to just move the stick from zero throttle through the full range, but lack of brakes might suck. I'd run the steering to the 4th channel, which is the right stick left and right motion. It'd be awkward at first, but the European and some Asian drivers use the dual stick radio anyway, and it really isn't that hard to just move the stick around instead of a wheel.....well, at first it would be. It's a pretty precise radio though, I think it'd work pretty good......except for the stupid lack of brakes, I'm thinking on that one too.....:)

Smoke?? from a schulze..??? now THAT's rare!!?

You happen to have got some pics of that thing? would you please let us know about the service you got from schulze?

dabid 09.30.2005 03:06 AM

Ironically, Schulze is the only brand I've heard of going up in smoke!

I think I'll be saving up for a real controller now, should have enough cash for a nice 9920 in a few weeks. :) Still, the idea of experimenting with a cheap ebay controller is so tempting!

Rtsbasic 09.30.2005 05:09 AM

Using plane controllers with cars feels a bit unusual but its not unbearable (I'm used to 2 stick types anyway).

The controller should have brakes, just not progressive, more like prop brakes? But they'll stop the car.

aqwut 09.30.2005 05:35 PM

that's the second time that 18.129 went for repair...
their warranty Sucks monkey *ss...
they always make you pay for half of it... it's BS,
I've sent about 6 18.61k's for repair.. and now it's 2 18.129's...
I'm just gonna get back to my old friend.. the 40.160WK....

I think this time I only fried one or two of the FETS... the last one.. I killed a few.. I still kept the old one... I'll take pics later tonight.. I gotta go buy a jet in a couple of minutes...

Actually, using the plane controller for Gas to Brushless conversion would actually be pretty good..

If you didn't get Serums sarcasm, you must not have seen the infamous Hall of Shame!

Rene, link please. :)

Dabid, be prepared for some expensiv bbq footage. ;)

dabid 09.30.2005 11:22 PM

I've seen it before, and I still stand by my comment on Schulze stuff, it drives the point home even harder I think. :D

Dafni 10.01.2005 03:51 AM

This 18.97 costs a fortune and likes to burn. If that's the point, we all agree.
Overpriced piece of bonfire material

aqwut 10.01.2005 11:38 AM

I agree... that 18.97's like $300 ...
you can get teh 9920 for $200....
I wish the BK 36150's didn't have an rpm limit, else i would rather get that instead of the 40.160...

I hate schulze....!!
