The only problem I have run into is that sometimes the spur gear can rub on the face of the diff housing. Some cars did it and some didn't. This is easily resolved by adding a small shim on the diff against the bearing so that it spaces it away from the housing. No big deal and the diff works perfect. I have done 4 cars this way (2-Hyper 7's, 1-hyper 8, 1- K-3)and none have any issues.

I'm still using mine, it works great no problems whatsoever.

Is there any reason why not to use stock spur gear? I was succesfull in using hardened pinions with no problems.

There isn't any problem with using hardened steel on hardened steel gears, but that setup comes with an unecessary cost and weight that can be achieved using a regular steel pinion and a plastic spur gear.

steel spur - 30g
plastic spur - 10g + alum. adapter ~10g

10g are so important?

$25.00+shipping for 10g pinion is not that bad.

I picked up the spur today at the LHS for 7$ not to bad.

Anybody have an idea what tooth pinion is need for an 8xl on 4s lipos??

I was referring to the all-plastic Kyosho spur gear. That would weigh a bit less than the steel spur gear. BTW, $25 is a lot for a person that gets that much money in a week :mad:1.

It's mod1. What vehicle are you using? This info is needed for knowing the ratio of the front/rear diffs.

Point taken, but it is all relative. One good pinion should last longer and allows ease of change in center differential department, you can switch between different diffs in no time (torsen/open/tight/loose/you name it).

Try to use a 14 to start. It should get you in the ballpark.

People are just giving suggestions here to help other people out. Why do you find it necessary to have a debate. If you have a suggestion, post it. You don't need to bait Metalman into an arguement by asking him a question and then debating his answer just to make your point. :mad:1

There is no arguement here...

It is nice to follow suggestions, but it is much better to understand them as well. There is nothing wrong with finding all positives and negatives in solving particular problem. It is difficult to come with good solution without proper input.

Just found this out tonight, The center spur gear diff adaptor from JT racing is a perfect fit for the ofna 51T spur gears. The Diff adaptor from JT racing is for a Hyper 7 center diff case.
