yeah plus its plastic. cheaper to make. now the nitro aluminum version is $320 and the plastic version is $400 i would rather have a rc-monster convert with a aluminum chassis and a layout for big lipos. it would not pay for hpi to make it more expensive than the nitro... my two cents

I race at Norcal Hobbies in Union City Ca and Both Josh Alton & his brother Jake have been running these alot the last few months. The car seems to work very well. I asked Josh about the chassis weight & he said it was NOT light. The other thing I worry about is the chassis wearing thin quickly.

skid plates:whistle:

skid plates limit suspension travel. metal chassis lasts whole racing season.

- dont like the layout. even with mechanical brakes it can be done much better

* only time will tell if the plastic chassis is ok

- without all the lightened parts will be very heavy

+ body looks cool

like my fully hopped up nitro D8 but if i ever need e-buggy D8 wont be my choice

Bondonutz 08.12.2009 05:58 PM

I still haven't bought the D8 yet I ben wanting, and I was sad.
Now I'm happy I didn't because I will purchase this instead. Sometimes it pays to be a little bit of a slacker.

Marvin 08.12.2009 07:17 PM

Only one problem with it:
Nitro D8 : $398.99
V8e : $595.00 :surprised:

For what extra? How can they charge nearly $200 more for a plastic chassis version of a car they already make?

I don't like it anyways, it uses a 50T spur, so that motor is well off the centreline, as is the battery. Also, how limited a battery choice do you want?!? Nice they've really thought long and hard about this one. 5 minute run times on 7.4V anyone? It's the only way that'll be balanced.

IMO they should have designed it to accommodate twin lipo packs.

thats what I was thinking too when I saw it was limited to 140mm packs.

websense at work gives me the same message. had to wait to get home to check the car out.

anyways just good to see more electric 8th scales hitting the market.

The only thing I really like on this buggy is the radio box. Otherwise, I'm not sold on it. I would rather buy a D8 and then a Tekno conversion kit than one of these, even though I don't use mech. brakes. And besides- all RC cars, 1/8th scale and above, should have aluminum chassis!

they are hopped up on something :eyes:

$595:surprised: I will keep my tekno D8!

delirium 08.14.2009 02:26 PM

I don't like that layout, we'll see how it works... The only thing i like about this car right now is the body, would be perfect for my "narrowed 808" project.

Edumakated 08.14.2009 10:39 PM

I like it. It is only $295.00 at rcplanet.com. I might pick one up just because it is so different and see how it lasts. My 5s 3300 packs are only 140mm long, so they should fit. I can get a good 15 minutes out of them with a Tekin 1550 truggy motor on 5s.

emaxxnitro 08.15.2009 08:59 AM

its mine...

sabongi 08.25.2009 04:10 PM

anyone seen the version with motor brakes?

bdebde 08.26.2009 12:52 AM

It is the same, just remove the mechanical brake parts.
