Well, this is my take on the deal.... things could happen pretty quick...

The controllers are not the problem... it sounds like they have been ready for a while (though not tested). The hang up is the motor... they are working on getting a motor they are happy with and it's not there yet and there is no way of knowing when this will be resolved. They have sounded kinda frustrated when I have talked to them...trying to source/develop the right motor.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in the end they can hook up with Steve Neu. And a little birdie told me that there is an outside chance this could happen... please please please....... :004:

(don't trace this back to me, hee hee :007: it's just a rumor... )

I'm waiting for them to go to beta stage... then I will get excited....

So, has anybody had 5S on the MM yet?

Serum 10.24.2006 12:06 PM

I haven't heard of someone that did.. I have got some 5S packs to hook it up with.. the 8XL would be too hot i think.. Unless i put it in a serpent 1/8th.. Nice and light..

If you don't gear it to the moon, I think it might work. Maybe a more efficient motor, though. Or at least a higher wind.

My request to CC: SCREW THE MOTORS AND GIVE US THE MONSTER MAX ESC! :D

Seriously, though. We've got plenty of motors to choose from already. What we all really want is a reliable HV esc to run them with. I wish CC would launch the esc and make it a combo later.

I pressed Shawn pretty hard on Saturday afternoon on the same topics (but not as far as to ask about 6s) and received a very similar response. They are looking at the Neu motors as a model/target for the engineering of their motors. I was also told that the systems were some time off and that the motors were the primary holdup.

I think I'll buy a MM 4600, use the MM ESC in my Maxx but with a NEU motor and then later shift the MM & 4600 into my stadium truck when the MMM eventually arrives. Then 6s here we come!

I told them I was putting together a system and was trying to decide if I should wait for the Monster Maxx to come out or just go with something else and that if it was going to be in the next few months I would wait. The response was "I wouldn't wait then, I'd be surprised if was before next summer".

Then in talking about the system I wanted to set up I was discussing options on the market for controllers and I told him I wanted to run either 5s or 6s lipo. He then whispered "if you go with 5s and a high efficiency motor like a Nue, you can run the Mamba Maxx with an external BEC and it will handle it, but thats unofficial and I can't say that so don't tell anyone" (as he smiled). Then I asked if I want 6s I should wait for the Monster Maxx. He said "yea".

Not sure if this is new info, but I thought some of you might be interested in the hint at timing and 6s capability of the Monster maxx and also outside the specs capability of the Mamba maxx.

He did say that it would handle 5s WITH A HIGH QUALITY EFFICIENT MOTOR. I would not call the feigao either one of these. He specifically recomended Neu motors. If you are going to try it, I would try it w/ a Nue or Lehner. Not a feigao!

starscream 10.24.2006 02:46 PM

If someone does try 5S on thier MM, I would be very interested in seeing the results.

Dafni 10.24.2006 02:51 PM

I'll keep you updated, Starholler. (I know I owe you a mail...:013: slacker that I am)

What are your thoughts on the MM with a Feigao 9L and 12 GP3300's?

that might be my starting point unless I have the $$ to drop on the NEU.

btw....anyone here have a NEU? Whats the best wind for use on a UE-EMAXX? I was thinking the 1500 series w/2200KV

Serum 10.24.2006 03:44 PM

@jhautz;

a neu is a 4 poles, meaning more stress on the drivetrain. The feigao's are good motors, and it's not their efficiency that is lacking.

Another thing;

It's not a matter of a high efficiency motor, it's about the current that the motor takes. as simple as that. If it works with a 99 percent eff. motor, it work with a 10 percent eff. as well. It's about the current they take, not about their efficiency.

Correct, however it was clear to me that Castle was stating given a desired power level that the more efficient motor would be easier on the ESC which is true. 700w @ 80 amps vs 700w at 68 amps the second example would be less demanding on the esc (given a linear or relatively linear current draw vs power output).

I know U know that already, and your point about current draw is well placed. I just though a little clarification would help.

Yea... What he said....:018:

I would of thought it would run hot though. Seems hot on 3s for me.
