Very nice part, Mike. Nice pocketing.

Mr E-Maxx 04.26.2015 08:24 AM

Wow! I like it!

Maybe you can make a support brace for the end of the motor in the fornt of the car? I think it will help.

RC-Monster Mike 04.26.2015 10:33 AM

Thanks, Rene(Serum).
The motor doesn't really "need" rear support, and it wouldn't be super easy to implement, as it would have to adjust for gear mesh concurrently with the front of the motor on the mount upright. Personally, I think the complexity is not worth the benefit - the mount itself is quite rigid and, barring catastrophe or extreme abuse, won't need support at the rear of the motor to be effective.

Mr E-Maxx 04.26.2015 02:19 PM

Yes you are rigth. Your mount is pretty strong, but sometimes not the motor. But I see you point.

RC-Monster Mike 04.30.2015 12:23 PM

OK, with FLM Hybrid bulks and 1/8 diff, using the Slipperential diff in the center, dogbone lengths required are around 82-85mm pin to pin in the front and 107-110mm pin to pin out back(82mm and 110mm or 85mm and 107mm). Diffs do have slight variances in size, as do drive cups, but the skid is slotted to accommodate this.

rear skid

2 Attachment(s)
I finished up a slick little matching race skid for the rear - a matching front skid and chassis extension are also in the works. :-)

lincpimp 06.29.2015 02:34 PM

Looks good Mike... Big improvement over the plastic chassis.

Now you just need to whip up front and rear bulks with the diff holes adjusted to fit a lst diff case, and the front nose adapter machined to fit the lst case as well.

Just saying....

Kcaz25 06.29.2015 02:49 PM

Looks nice and light!

And a titanium chassis plate with front kick up, all one piece. Since we are being forward.

RC-Monster Mike 07.01.2015 05:45 PM

It won't be too long for a truggy-style chassis - 7075-T6 Aluminum, though (Titanium would be cost prohibitive).

Skids

Front skid is done(waiting for material to make a run, though). :-)

I understand. I am very excited still.

CHassis extension

3 Attachment(s)
Finished up the 35mm chassis extension last night. Hoping to finish the 50mm version today and get them post posted to the site and available for sale. The good news is that I was able to devise a relatively simple and modular design that allows for a super light weight, strong, and attractive design that complements the V-Maxx chassis nicely - and fit any Maxx that uses standard skids and bulks. I will likely also make a few skids to accept the UE VBS system as well, as I know the Maxx purists and collectors appreciate compatibility with the high end parts.

The 35mm extension adds less than 2oz to the weight of the truck!

By utilizing a modular skid-based design, the penalty for severe use is mitigated - after bashing to your heart's content, the skid will be the only real wear item, which will be available separately for under $20!

Some pics of the prototype installed onto a V-Maxx chassis. I tested the UE Lightning and stock chassis as well(fits either, though stock chassis needs minor dremel work to clear the top plate - not likely to see many stock chassis, though)

ruudxd 07.10.2015 12:25 PM

Looks good!
How about the center axle?
Doesnt that has to be longer to?

RC-Monster Mike 07.10.2015 12:30 PM

Yes, a longer center shaft is needed. Although not verified at the moment, a stock cvd bone from the front/rear diff-to-wheel should be the correct length for the 35mm extended version. :-)

Buzzsaw46 07.11.2015 11:32 PM

Dang Mike, I cant buy this stuff as fast as your making it.

Mr E-Maxx 07.12.2015 03:05 PM

@ Buzzaw46 you are so rigth.

@ Mike you are so fast and every single Part looks so nice! I can't wait to get them.
Will you make Center Dogbones or CVD's?

Buzzsaw46 07.12.2015 10:45 PM

I have the Chassis, braces, center skid, and diff mount already and they look amazing! I have the LP Shock towers, front/rear skids, and a new set of FLM hybrids on order, and I'm sure Mike will have quick change hybrids soon enough, LOL!

I got together with my painter today to practice some new techniques for the body I picked for this beast. It's going to be amazing!

Buzzsaw46 07.12.2015 11:08 PM

Here is what we ended up with today, the photos don't do it justice!http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/l...pstqzbqvra.jpg

RC-Monster Mike 07.13.2015 01:49 PM

I decided to make the 50mm version a little different than initially planned - should have them done in a few days. Same idea, but tweaked. :-)

Body painting is definitely not a strength of mine - I lack the patience needed to be good at it - fortunately, I have some friends that can paint if I want something nicer than a one-color-wonder for bashing.

nitrostarter 07.13.2015 03:39 PM

For the 50mm length, what body is that putting the maxx under?

I presume you can use the stock chassis braces or the aluminum correct?

I'm getting really tempted to sneak in an order for this Maxx chassis with the center diff.

RC-Monster Mike 07.13.2015 03:45 PM

The ERevo body is sized nicely for the 35mm extension - for the 50mm extension, I'm thinking Savage XL.

nitrostarter 07.13.2015 03:48 PM

Need some pics of your completed setup

Buzzsaw46 07.17.2015 02:11 AM

Coming together nicely! Thanks Mike, You The Man!

Truck is looking sweet!

ruudxd 07.18.2015 03:51 PM

Dang it, with all these topics, I want a maxx to :)
Nice car Buzzsaw!

Buzzsaw46 07.18.2015 06:50 PM

Thanks guys! Mike and I have flipped my painter to. He was always a bit of a Maxx hater, but the clean center diff mount and LCG RCM chassis has him drooling, and considering a monster truck build.

I cant wait to drive this thing. Hope to have the rest of the parts this week!

kjf73 07.20.2015 05:19 PM

Hi guys new here from Denmark.. Am also building a RCM Maxx so thought I should chime in..loving your build Buzzsaw ..question lenghth of your dogbones/ diff cups??

Pics of my build soon..
Kristian

Buzzsaw46 07.20.2015 08:08 PM

I used Associated #89575 82mm (front) Associated #89576 108mm (rear) dogbones. RCM slipperential with Traxxas 6mm drive cups in the center and Mugen MBX7T diffs with UE 5mm drive cups on the pinions. That setup gets me about 2-3mm of end play on each bone.

ruudxd 07.21.2015 11:08 AM

May I ask why you use two different sizes cups?
Don't you have a lot of play in the 5mm cup?
Or is the 5mm the bore size Wich slides over the pinion?

Arct1k 07.21.2015 01:19 PM

Correct its just the difference between pinion and diff gear size.

kjf73 07.21.2015 06:03 PM

Thanks for the Info Buzzsaw..very Nice build..Think i am going with the 350mm extension so have to mockup when i get the parts from Mike..guess its going to be a bit "suck it and see" ;-)

RC-Monster Mike 07.21.2015 07:18 PM

The front won't change - just add 35mm to the rear with the extension. Basically, you will need around 85mm up front and 145mm out back - could go 88mm up front and 142mm out back with the adjustment available on the skid. These are ball park numbers, based on the Slipperential diff - some diffs are slightly larger or smaller, but using the 85/145 sizes you should fit most 1/8 diffs out there.

kjf73 07.22.2015 04:58 PM

Thanks Mike.. Next question..anyone know a good brand with 145mm dogbones?? Thanks in advance.. K.

_paralyzed_ 07.22.2015 07:13 PM

I haven't done anything with Maxx trucks in quite some time.

Darn you Mike, I may have to build another one!

RC-Monster Mike 07.22.2015 10:59 PM

I read that Alza Racing has a stainless 142mm bone that works well on a 35mm extended V-Maxx. :-)

DarkSammy 07.23.2015 01:06 AM

ALZA make very beefy parts too, so it should be indestructible...

RC-Monster Mike 07.23.2015 01:41 PM

50mm extension done

Shown next to the 35mm for size comparison. :-)

kjf73 07.23.2015 02:07 PM

Thanks for the Info.. HPI do dogbones that fit for the Savage XL but they are 8mm .. Can they fit (somehow) the Slipperential drivecups or are we waaay out?? Can get them locally and cheap ...
