What are you doing about a Lipo Charger/Balancer?

PlayerOne 05.07.2008 09:44 AM

can you recommend a good charger and do i need a balancer if i only have one battery

What exactly does a balancer do?

TexasSP 05.07.2008 10:26 AM

Yes, with lipo you need a balancer. The balancer balances the individual cells which make up a lipo pack. Using unbalanced cells will lead to shortened pack life, and possible pack damage.

An excellent lipo charger which has a built in balancer so it balances while charging is the Hyperion EOS0606i AC/DC Balance Charger. It will do up to 6s at 6 amps, is AC/DC and balances while charging. I own two and they are excellent chargers. Mike doesn't show them in stock but I am sure he would order one for you.

Yes, probably one of the most common chargers used and the built in balancer is a great item to have. They go for around $110ish

Is this too high of a price for it?
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=3367

Are these the cables that i need with it?
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=1886

That doesn't look like too bad of a price unless shipping is outrageous. The cables should already come with it. Mine did atleast. All you'll have to do is solder a female connecter on to it and you should be good to go!

140 with free shipping is a nice deal, besides, I have heard nothing but great things about BPP!

Check out Impakt:

They actually sell it for less than MAP at $130. And even though their site says that the output cables dont come with it, mine did - I dont know if thats normal or not.
Impakt has decent priced shipping and super fast with great customer service. And no, i'm not affiliated with 'em.

Yeah, I have ordered from Impakt and have had no issues with them.
Remeber though, different batteries brands use different balancing plugs, so when you order the charger make sure to order different balancing plugs for the charger if the the battery packs you buy don't use hyperion taps

You could also buy from rclipos.com
They have the hyperion charger for $140 and shipping is free. They also stock elite lipos, which IMO are very good bang for the buck. 4800mAh 2s elite lipo for $71, 3s is $106, 4s is $136 and 5s is $169. These lipos aren't talked about a lot and i'm not sure why. I have 2 of the 2s elite lipos and so far they are awesome.
Well, good luck with the shopping :)
