Jahay 03.31.2011 10:02 AM

Finally ready for some anodising!!!!

Thought i would take a before shot of all the alloy that is being sent off. I have decided to leave my shock towers and my brace kit silver to add a little contrast otherwise the red would be way to overpowering imo

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...3-31131016.jpg

I also took some comparison shots of the LST 2 Alloy hubs and the Suspension conversion kit hubs...

This looks like they will add some weight, but should add stability to this brutal build and should deal with any 60mph cart wheels hopefully *

Little Update

Look what arrived today

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-09121917.jpg

Not exactly the red i was hoping for, but i am still happy with it...
I was hoping for this finish on the integy RX box

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-09122735.jpg

Some of my alloy mounts look a little dull, but i guess that is because i didnt prepare the surface and polish them before the anodising...

Let the build commence

I agree - get building!

(The red looks nice - should be a good looking truck)

Bazzokajoe 04.09.2011 10:52 AM

Cant wait to see this truck go together :D

It was epic before... but now... its in another league :P

Jahay 04.09.2011 08:11 PM

I originally thought i wasnt that happy, but it has grown on me more and more, and i prefer the colour... Something different to the usual polished reds you always see... Im liking the "matt" finish.

Im not going to be putting too many pics up in this thread, as i will create a whole new build thread from start to finish with this.

So just some teaser pics...

Small Review on Carbon Arms
Finding a method to mount my sway bar with the Carbon arms, is proving difficult. There is no original mounting hole...
Mounting the bottom shocks to the arm is also difficult. Plus, i feel there is also a lot of binding. Yes they look really good, and i believe they will perform well offering great rigidity, but i may sacrifice all that and put the stock arms back on...

This will not be a build i can put together so quickly.
I am waiting on little things like shock bolts, and having to customise this and that to make things fit and work...

I have decided on using dual Shocks per arm. Utilising only one spring on one shock and the second shock for added damping for handling bumps at speed.
Also one bare alloy shock looks soooo good!

Overdriven 04.09.2011 11:01 PM

Looking good. As for the mounting the sway bar end links, How about using the threaded portion of the upper control arm. Thread the turnbuckle of the upper control arm through the end link of the sway bar. Or maybe find another way to mount it to the upper arm. I can't see the sway bar being less effective mounted to the upper control arm instead of the lower. Just throuwing out some ideas, would be a shame to mess with those CF lower arms either way.

Jahay 04.10.2011 05:59 PM

I decided to go back to the stock arms... They are so much better, and i am going to want to bash this hard when it is done, so plastic stock arms FTW!

Ill keep the vantage arms and use them, when i race or something. But for now im happy with stock and easier point for mounting my sway bar.

I have loads of build pictures, but will keep all these for when i complete the truck and begin a proper build thread with entire write up and pics.

Here are some more teaser pics

My New Bullet Proof high grade polycarb Skid Plate
meaning they are virtuarly indestructible

This will show off all my bling from below very well :)

Knez 04.14.2011 02:22 PM

Very nice, shiny and bling!
How heavy is ur skid plate?

Will u have any stickers or "shild/covers" for tvp holes?
Little stones and dirt will gather on skid plate if no tvp "shilds/covers" used.

Jahay 04.15.2011 09:31 AM

Im working something out bud ;)

Little Update with my build
Ill let the pics do the talking

Looking very nice!

thzero 04.15.2011 10:17 AM

I'm interested to see how the axle extenders hold up, that and the axles since I will be running the same thing on my 5th scale truggy conversion.

May have to give him a go, since those Stateside that claim to do custom work never seem to actually respond.

Jahay 04.15.2011 02:16 PM

seriously! He is the best guy i have dealt with... Responds witin a couple of hours every time! Obviously take into account your time difference...

Gdot 04.17.2011 08:22 AM

wow. looking less like savage every time i come to see here. nice setup, and looks pro now too

Dj_Sparky 04.17.2011 09:20 AM

Hey, what chassis is that? And also, what kind of arms are those you used to have? Looks like carbon fiber or something..

Jahay 04.17.2011 05:18 PM

Thanks Dot... It is a bit of a hybrid now... I just want to take what i believe are the toughest areas of trucks and truggys and make a fast solid RC... more importantly, just be fun to build

Sparky... The chassis is based on the GCM Desertboy-17 chassis. But as this is my second one and i needed a custom one built so i could make my own areas for mounting .... Chris at GCM kindly offered to make me my own chassis to my preference, as it was my second one anyway.

Definitely hit chris up if you want something special!

anyway

I have been very busy this weekend with some DIY work... so not much time for the savage... plus im waiting on some solder and flux...

Anyway had an hour to fiddle today...

I have realigned the diff mount correctly now...

I just wanted to work on the wire mess that could occur if i dont get this right... So i wanted to see where everything would sit...

Some Wire Mesh to protect wiring.. .

BTW it isnt finished yet... So not all ends finalised

Jahay 04.25.2011 05:18 AM

Cheers Mac!!

Not completed yet... but should be done very soon!

Waiting on a few little bits to complete like shock ball ends, shock oil, some more washers and i need a front bumper! OH AND I NEED A NEW STEERING SERVO!, i decided to use my ace servo as my brake servo and need a savox i think for my steering

Here are some more pics as it comes together

Jahay, the savage looks damn awesome! cant stop looking at it. Btw, I was wondering about the mud flap you have on the rear arm. Are they really carbon fiber?

JERRY2KONE 04.25.2011 09:00 AM

Best build yet.

Jahay this is your best work yet bud:yes:. When you put together your new thread please share all of your customizing expenses so the ture value is revealed. I had peaked:eyes: in on this thread last year, but it was going too slow for me to follow, because I just wanted to see it all done:na:. Looking back at where you started with this truck it has truly transformed from a backyard basher to a very professional work of art:intello:. In the begining you were in too much of a hurry and taking shortcuts that were costing you in the long run:neutral:. Now that you have taken your time and gotten this done right, it looks so sweet, and I would believe that it will perform so much better:party:. It will be a pleasure seeing this thing tearing up the road as it flows effortlessly over the terrain, but seeing it in slow motion will be something that we will all want to watch over and over again like a dirty movie:mdr:. R/C porn at its best. I think your efforts on this project will bring you much deserved rewards taking pictures and videos of it for weeks. Nice work my friend. You have got to get this build into RCcaration magazine or some place to really show it off. This is a one of a kind build with all of the custom work you have put into it. Way to go.

Jahay 04.26.2011 08:35 PM

Thanks you for the kind comments!

Jerry, Thank you very much bud! You are right about the rush on my previous build, i guess it was more of a tester project to see what would and not work, and what i wanted from my own build...
I definitely will put together a list. The time taken and money spent will definitely be documented for people to peak at. I am not going to run this till i have completely finshed it. Im still waiting on finishing touches. I need plenty of pics before i run it, as i know it will never look as shiny ever again haha

I never considered an RC Mag, but i will definitely give it a shot after i get some nice pics taken

Thanks again!

And to hopefully preserve the tvps as long as possible. I decided to protect them with 1mm lexan. Mt Previous GCM TVPs looked pretty battered after 6s abuse. I do not want these getting ripped apart immidiately!

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...4-26235356.jpg

What i like, is that you dont even see them fitted... they will begin to look tatty, but ill just cut some new ones out as i have a template now.

Nixpus 04.27.2011 02:27 AM

Damn Jahay! You need to get that thing out for a propper trashing!!

But as you wrote... do take plenty of pic's before you do so ;)

Jahay 04.27.2011 06:03 AM

Oh yea!

Jahay 04.29.2011 11:12 AM

Thought i would just mention. I weighed the flux fully loaded with 9s worth of lipos and it comes in at 18.7lbs which is better than i thought. I was expecting closer to 20+lbs.

The majority of the weight is in the heavy baja wheels and the lipos. So im quite happy.
I believe the 1520 motor should be enough. It is geared for 42mph on 6s and gearing will be kept the same for 9s. Temps will be monitored closely, but i belive everything should be fine. It was originally geared for 56mph on 6s when it weighed 16.5lbs, and temps were in the 130 for the esc, motor and 100 for the lipos. We will see how it goes.

thzero 04.29.2011 11:45 AM

Yeah thats not bad. I was at 16.4 with the 5T conversion, with Baja wheels/tires, and 6S batteries.

I'm interested to see how it goes with 9S but geared for 6S on the 1520.

Jahay 05.11.2011 05:36 AM

Right!

I know this build is going on wayyyy toooo looonnggg! But im still waiting on
Savox 1256 Steering servo
Some Little bits from HobbyKing to finish off my look
A Baja Wing

But in the mean time, i have received something which i put on the truck immediately...

I received my new REAL TITANIUM Suspension shafts from Rob at KrakenRC!
http://www.krakenrc.com/index.php/pr...ucts/view/2/10

These look awesome, and are extremely tough. Definitely tougher than stock from what i have felt, and for people that stilll bend the Alloy BigBore Shock TI COATED Steel shafts, you know what to upgrade too now :)

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-10213416.jpg

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-10225620.jpg

Some nice pics installed showing i still get great travel with my shocks.

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-10220757.jpg

Rear Shock
http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-10231057.jpg

Front Shock - ------- Note it isnt installed in usual lower a arm location!------ info below as to why...
http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-10230936.jpg

WHY HAVE I MOVED THE FRONT SHOCK and Removed the sway bar? Because i wouldnt get full steering throw without so.

Only the front sway bar has been removed. I will have to see how it handles without it. Im hoping the large offset hexs will save me here.... Only time will tell.

Where the Shock Is now sitting on the lower a arm (sway bar location) Notice the Shock with the black sock using the original fitment position.

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-04175351.jpg

Steering at full throw. You can see how the steering rod end connecting to the spindle, requires the space where the shock end would be fitted to reach its full throw.

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-04175428.jpg

So now i have moved everything, and i am getting full throw... I should have great steering

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...5-06223436.jpg

Nixpus 05.11.2011 06:13 AM

Looking way good Jahay!!

I really like your front suspension idea. Full sterring throw while maintaining the dual shock setup!

What is lbs? Im a metric guy ;) Is it pounds? Then I can convert it with Brians R/C Calc :)

Jahay 05.11.2011 02:51 PM

yes bud... lbs = pounds. A lot of the things have not been tried before, so hopefully i will soon try out the handling and alter anything i do not like. Hopefully this works as i want to maintain as much steering as possible as i do not have reverse anymore

Many, includinig myself at first never used a front sway bar as it did kill my steering... so ill see how it goes.

_dV 05.30.2011 06:23 AM

Still waiting on parts?

Great job btw. You've obviously put a great deal of time into this build and it looks great. Can't wait to see how it drives.

Jahay 05.30.2011 06:36 AM

Sorry About the lack of updates _dv! no one is as excited as me haha i just hope it performs as well as it looks! The only thing i can see being a let down are the baja wheels and tyres for handling... If they dont perform as i want, then i will go back to my SPI alloy rims..... But we will see

Just got back from holiday....

Gd news is, just before i went away, everything needed to finish this monster arrived... and of course i am cracking on with it...

So last night, i managed to get the 3rd wheel bearing installed in all the hubs..
Got the steering servo installed and connected up...

Just need to make sure the brake mech is working correctly and all set up properly.

And i am just finishing off my cage and bolting and locktighting everything....

TAKING A LONG WHILE! but i do not want to rush anything!!!!

SHould hopefully be done very very soon!!! (this week, fingers crossed

Bazzokajoe 05.30.2011 12:41 PM

josh, if your done this week and about on friday... i'm up for the drive into town to come and film the maiden voyage? ;)

cant wait to see how this turns out :D what design are you doing for with the cage? something similar to the original?

Jahay 06.02.2011 08:03 PM

Sorry Joe, sadly it is not ready yet... just havent had much time to work on it.

The cage needs a lot of time if i want it to look right, and deciding on the final look, although similar to the original, requires a lot of fiddling. I think this is the longest, tedious bit of it all!

Also i ran into a problem... i think my pistix is not working correctly, as i havent programmed it right.
I have asked brian for some help as he is running the same motor, esc, pistix... hopefully he can help me out...

My stering servo works, my brakes even work, but motor doesnt respond to throttle. :/

Hopefully its running in time for the meet

Jahay 06.06.2011 05:03 AM

Little teaser pic of the cage finished...

Should be running in the next couple of days  Just need to get my brake problem sorted...

http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/a...6-04154357.jpg

Bazzokajoe 06.06.2011 05:05 AM

:O

Thats the sex :D

You up to racing it on thursday? ;)

Jahay 06.07.2011 06:28 PM

Ok Guys...

FIRST TEST RUN

results... Blown Pinion gear and brakes need serious adjusting, which will be done upon installation of new pinion

Half throttle was only held. Never once was full throttle pulled as i was too worried about stopping without brakes.

Pinion snapped as there was too much grip and the truck was in reverse i believe.

There is so much weight up front that the truck didnt wheelie and felt very controlled even with so much power.

Only time will tell when i try full throttle...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO-gqU4mkPI

brian015 06.07.2011 07:23 PM

Up and running! Very nice.

pinkpanda3310 06.07.2011 08:03 PM

Shit hot looking car Jahay! And it lived up to 'Torque Monster'

Dj_Sparky 06.08.2011 12:31 AM

Awesome cage style. What does it consist of? Any chance of a walkthrough of the process? Would love to do something similar.

9s with the CC XL and 1717? :O Sounds risky but looks like it's doing nicely.

And also, nice ring.
