center drive shaft a little short
Hi I am in the process of a 3.3 conversion. I have the 3905 center transmission, UE 6mm drive cups, and UE drive shaft. The drive shaft seems to have a little bit of play (4mm or so) but it is still very much inside both cups...my question is, should there be no play at all, or very minimal play(like 1mm)?

I am running into a prob. w/my 3.3 conversion as well...my new v3 diffs have a different cup diameter than the inner diameter of the ones on the trans. I have a set of dogbones that will fit, but one end has some play and the other does not. I am trying to find a cup that will fit on the trans that has the same size inner cup diameter as the dogbone.....needless to say that is my challenge.
In answer to your question...on my buggy, there is about 2mm of play..on my crt.5 there is about 3mm of play w/no issues |

right on mag I just needed to see if it was ok for some play..that rhymes:lol:
you're using the 3905 transmission also, right? I have the v3's as well and I'm using the UE 6mm transmission cups, but the ID's aren't slotted;the just use two set screws to hold the shafts so I made sure that it it really tight w/threadlocker...good luck with your situation though. |
Use some fuel tubing in the cups to center the bones...

Fuel tubing? In the drive cups you say? Why, the mere notion of it is...well I will have to try that!

I use S3 o-rings on mine.

best way i have found too |
I cram old pieces of bubble gum in the cups and then duct tape the outsides. I also like to wrap duct tape on the tires as it keeps the road from wearing the tread down. These are all good tricks, I will think of more and write them down. Wrapping duct tape around the motor is also good to keep the heat in (heat = power), why waste it!

LOL pimp haha
duct tape...the stuff of the gods |

you could also save money by filling your shocks and diffs with pudding (its alot cheeper than silicone oil and tastes better too) stop buying expensive tire foam, you can fill alot of tires with just one can of great stuff foam |

Seems like the molded foams don not fit as well though... Mayo would be better in shocks, IMO. That way when you pop one it would look really funny with the white stuff dripping off it. |
 this forums great
