First E- Revo

Yeah, im new too all of this but just saw the new e-revo and looked in to this conversion and wanted to convert my nitro revo 2.5r over to electric. I was thinking of getting the Tekno RC Brushless conversion kit, but dont know what motor or ESC to get also the battery. I would like for it to run at least 25-30 mins, but more would be better. im not going to race it or anything.

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.02.2008 06:08 PM

So is it mostly for bashing/jumping?
Do you have a $ limit?

Yeah, bashing/jumping
no real $ limit but not too much if you could try

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.02.2008 07:22 PM

Be a good idea to read through the REVO section on the forum http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=24 and you will see plenty of ideas on conversions.
I good allround conversion would be the Feigao/Nemesis/Wanderer 9XL or maybe 8XL http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...WAND_XL&cat=20
You don't really need to go over 5S but still me wise to get the new Castle Mamba Monster as by the time you get the Mamba Max, a fan and a BEC you nearly spent as much as a Mamba Monster which comes with all those features - http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...steresc&cat=20
Read through these 2 topics and you may get some ideas

Thanks
What battery should i get and what about two?
What ESC or is the Castle Mamba Monster an ESC?
So the Tekno conversion is good

jnev 05.02.2008 09:52 PM

I'd stick to either TrueRC or Flightpower for batteries. Flightpower is better, but also quite a bit more expensive. The TrueRC packs are great, but not quite at the quality of the flightpower packs. The Mamba Monster ESC would be perfect for your truck. The Tekno conversion is good, but some aren't really a fan of the clutch on electric motors. You could go with the RC-Monster motor mount and just use the Tekno mounts to mount the electronics.

PlayerOne 05.02.2008 10:10 PM

Whats wrong with the motor mount in the tekno conversion? and what would the RC-Monster motor mount do to help the clutch/ not use it?
How much power in the batteries?
I know about the ESC and motor but what about the receiver and transmitter? can i use the traxxas ones?

Fkyx 05.02.2008 10:17 PM

The Traxxas TX/RX will be fine as long as you make sure they do however many channels as you need.

83gt 05.02.2008 10:47 PM

The tekno mount sits far back from the transmission, so you must use the clutch adapter to reach far enough to mesh with the spur. A standard pinion will not be long enough to engage. The RC Monster mount is designed to be used with a spur, and sits closer to the transmission. It would not be possible, at least not easily, to use the clutch with the RCM mount, nor a standard mod 1 pinion with the tekno kit.

I've not used a clutch on electric before, but I'm plenty happy with the performance using the RCM mount and a standard mod 1 pinion on my revo.

Not sure what you mean by "how much power in the batteries ?".

Battery really depends on budget. You got 2S (7.4V) 3S (11.1V) 4S (14.8V) etc. etc. Good battery will be 4S 5000 but then you got to measure what battery tray you will be using to see if it will fit the way you like. If you run a 4S battery you will only require 1 but if you were to use a 2S you will more than likely require 2.
Yes the Castle Mamba Monster is a ESC - http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...a_monster.html
Here is the link to RC-Monster Motor Mount - http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...d=RCMrevomount You can buy parts from the Tekno kit by themselves if you wanted to do a custom setup http://www.teknorc.com/product_info....roducts_id=940

Some people have had decent luck with the stock reciever. When I switched mine to brushless power, I only had about 20 yards of range. When I switched to a futaba 2.4 ghz it was much better. If you upgrade, it won't be a waste of money.

do i lose transmitter range when i switch to electric, if i still used the traxxas stuff?

Whats a good transmitter and receiver, i looked at the futaba 2.4 ghz

PlayerOne 05.03.2008 10:45 AM

does anyone have a pic of the RCM mount on a truck? just trying to figure out how it looks and works.

I did lose a lot of range. After I went brushless, my range pretty much rendered my truck undrivable. After I switched to the futaba I haven't had any problems at all. I would recommend it. I've been very happy with mine.

PlayerOne 05.05.2008 12:48 AM

so you got this http://www.futaba-rc.com/radioaccys/futl8926.html
along what radio system?

PlayerOne 05.05.2008 05:23 PM

What else do i need to take off? i would like to use mechanical brakes and well probably go with single steering servo.

Trick440 05.05.2008 05:58 PM

Lose the mechanical brakes.

Get this servo...
http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...roducts_id=317

So whats it take to go brushless?...
$400 for a motor and controller (in between price, you could go alot more or less.)
$95 for the motor mount, clutch, gears, etc. Stock tranny
$70 single servo
$15 FOC

... Then batteries... Thats another $400+ (lipos)

I would suggest than a 5000mah 4s either TrueRc or a Zippy, and with that setup you wouldnt need a Monster, a MM should do with a UBEC, right now at the price you can get a MMM fro Mike for I would go that route, and with the Feigao dont over gear the motor or it will run hot

can you show me the stuff your talking about because i have no idea what a MMM,MM,and a UBEC are

would the monster still work with that motor? or is the MM and UBEC better

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.05.2008 08:27 PM

MM - Mamba Max
MMM - Mamba Monster Max (Monster)
UBEC - Battery Eliminator Circuit

The monster has a built in BEC and can also take up to 25v so Monster is a much better ESC

DRIFT_BUGGY 05.05.2008 08:33 PM

MM - http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail..._MM_ESC&cat=21
MMM - http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...steresc&cat=21
BEC - http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...stlebec&cat=21
You may also here some people talk about the Sidewinder which is the sports model ESC but only takes 3S http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...nderesc&cat=21
To find out more about the BEC, go to the CC site http://www.castlecreations.com/products/cc_bec.html

PlayerOne 05.06.2008 03:43 PM

So this is what i have so far, Trick440 has some info on a guy whose selling a motor mount and some other stuff so i have that covered. What do you guys think? Comments?

Motor 9XL
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...WAND_XL&cat=20

Castle Mamba Monster
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...steresc&cat=20

5000 mAh 4s battery
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...P-EVO25-50005S

Single Steering Servo
http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...roducts_id=317

Transmitter/ receiver
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXPZT7&P=0

Arct1k 05.06.2008 06:03 PM

IMO I would go for a tg5955 servo if you can...

A 5000 4s truerc may be a little light - you would be ok with a polyquest or other Enerland 5k pack but may need to get a larger pack (6 or 8k) if you want to go with Truerc.

PlayerOne 05.06.2008 09:05 PM

can some one recommend some other good batteries please

azjc 05.06.2008 09:12 PM

1.Flightpower
2.Trakpower
3.Polyquest
4.Neuenergy

PlayerOne 05.06.2008 10:59 PM

So this battery will work with the monster and everthing else?

What are you doing about a Lipo Charger/Balancer?

PlayerOne 05.07.2008 09:44 AM

can you recommend a good charger and do i need a balancer if i only have one battery

What exactly does a balancer do?

TexasSP 05.07.2008 10:26 AM

Yes, with lipo you need a balancer. The balancer balances the individual cells which make up a lipo pack. Using unbalanced cells will lead to shortened pack life, and possible pack damage.

An excellent lipo charger which has a built in balancer so it balances while charging is the Hyperion EOS0606i AC/DC Balance Charger. It will do up to 6s at 6 amps, is AC/DC and balances while charging. I own two and they are excellent chargers. Mike doesn't show them in stock but I am sure he would order one for you.

Yes, probably one of the most common chargers used and the built in balancer is a great item to have. They go for around $110ish

PlayerOne 05.07.2008 03:57 PM

Is this too high of a price for it?
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=3367

Are these the cables that i need with it?
http://www.allerc.com/product_info.php?products_id=1886

jkp41 05.07.2008 05:38 PM

That doesn't look like too bad of a price unless shipping is outrageous. The cables should already come with it. Mine did atleast. All you'll have to do is solder a female connecter on to it and you should be good to go!

and with this pigtail the deans connector is already soldered on in case you are not comfortable with soldering

TexasSP 05.07.2008 06:34 PM

140 with free shipping is a nice deal, besides, I have heard nothing but great things about BPP!

SypderFungus 05.07.2008 07:41 PM

Check out Impakt:
http://www.impaktrc.com/product_info...oducts_id=2057
They actually sell it for less than MAP at $130. And even though their site says that the output cables dont come with it, mine did - I dont know if thats normal or not.
Impakt has decent priced shipping and super fast with great customer service. And no, i'm not affiliated with 'em.
