Greets!

Hello, everyone! I'm new in the neighborhood. I've got a Duratrax Evader ST EP and my current project is a Traxxas E-Maxx (see my avatar).

I'm not currently brushless, but I've been reading the forums with great interest. I have to admit, though, that I still wrestle with the cost factor...and that's just thinking about it casually!

So I have to ask [puts Nomex undies on] -- what is so bad about the Novak brushless systems? How does the new HV-MAXX stack up compared to setups like the Warrior 9918 and a Feigao 9L?

ryanvm777 02.16.2005 05:09 PM

I have a 7xl and a 9918 and there is no comparison (18 cells) I got it here, and it cost the same or a little less than the HV-maxx. Not to mention the spectacular customer service. A guy at my local track had the HV set up and it seemed like a lot of money for what it did. But I am also comparing it to what I have. He drove my truck and couldnt belive the power it had. Also I belive you are more limited on how many batt. you can run. I think you can only run 14 cells with the HV, and 16 with a 9l. One thing I do like is the heat sinks that come with the HV. I purchased some for my 7xl for about $3 online. I would recomend rc-monster.com over the HV-maxx setup by far.

Ryan; What heatsinks did you buy and where ?
Got pics? ;)

I should have a heatsink/motor clamp available soon. It is currently under development and should be available anytime. This will work with any Feigao/Hacker size 540 can motor ("s", "L", or "XL"). I hope to have these available in a week or so. These will function as a heatsink, but will also have a clamping action to hold the pressed endbells together. This should make the Feigao type motor a much more attractive purchase, as you will not have the threat of a popped can. It will be a two piece design and the price should be in the $20-$30 range.

The heat shink motor clamp sounds awesome. Count me in for one.

I will be mounting a fan on top of the heatsinks and the 9918 soon. But will have to check out the one from Mike also. Dont forget to answer HV-MAXX question.

Ryan, are you running 48 pitch pinions/spur? If so, how do the teeth hold up? I considered moving to 48 pitch gears, but I was told they just wouldn't hold up in the E-Maxx.

ryanvm777 02.16.2005 10:28 PM

32 pitch 24t plastic pinion. Seems to be holding up.

Must be the picture playing tricks on my eyes :)

RC-Monster Mike 02.16.2005 10:40 PM

Ryan runs a big motor, which makes the pinion/spur LOOK small. The Novak systems are pretty decent. They are more powerful than stock and get a better runtime with near zero maintenance. The systems most on these forums runs are a little more extreme in the power department (well, Ryan's is a LOT more extreme in the power department). The Novak systems are pretty good, and smooth, but in terms of pure power, most of the setups here will easily outperform the Novak.

Well, Mike, based on everything I've been reading here, you've got my business if/when I decide to make the jump to brushless. Great site!

RC-Monster Mike 02.17.2005 08:52 AM

Thanks. Let me know when you are ready. You can also e-mail me direct if you have any unanswered questions. Glad you are enjoying the forum and website, too!

I did alot of researsh before I purchased my BL system. RC-monster.com got me hooked. I started out with replaceing the motor and controlor. Now the only thing left stock is the servo and the radio.

CAUTON: RC-MONSTER.COM MAY BE HABIT FORMING

Megazone23 02.17.2005 03:55 PM

LOL! I will keep that in mind! I think it will probably be a while before I can make the jump to brushless, though, simply due to the economics of that upgrade...not to mention the really stern looks I'll get from my wife when she sees the bills!

ryanvm777 02.17.2005 04:01 PM

Yeah I got those looks to!!! I just went into her closet and started counting how many pairs of shoes she had. LOL

HotnCold 02.17.2005 05:48 PM

closet

LMFAO @ ryans closet comment - i should try looking in my wifes closet - That would be something if we had as many rc's as they had shoes - I would need a bigger home - lol

Megazone23 02.17.2005 07:36 PM

Unfortunately, that's one of those plans that really looks great on paper, but something happens upon implementation that inevitably causes it to backfire in that spectacular way that only a few nights out on the couch will rectify!

HotnCold 02.17.2005 08:40 PM

been there - done that - will do again
