Build One, Get It Right, Part It Out, Do It Again !! Life & Times of a Crawler Newbie

Well I guess I'm not really a "noob" any longer. But I still know that I have a long long way to go.

Got hooked on Rock back in April of this year and it seems to dominate my R/C endeavours as of late.

I figure I have waited waaaay too looong to post up my comp. AX-10 Crawler. So here goes:

I started fairly simple and upgraded along the way to get it to this point in about 6 months.

Thanks for looking.

-Doug

I had this truck crawling very well. Moving up 2 spots at each comp and even placing 1st on one of the course's. I was finishing in the Top 10 at most comps w/ 18-23 entries at any given time. 2 of the guys we crawl with placed Top 15 at Natty's so motivation is HIGH. I got to the point where I felt I "had to have" dig to get keep advancing towards the podium. Yeah, no brainer huh?

Here are some of the pics:

As of last week this truck no longer exist. :gasp: It has been totally parted out and spread around North Carolina helping many other's with their AX-10 build.

All I need is the XRay towel and were good

My pain is getting this next build ready. I absolutely despise the downtime. :diablo: It's gonna be nice when it's done though. I should have just about everything by this weekend with exception to the HH dig swiches(out of stock).

Yes I still feel your pain, I'm waiting for parts all the fricken time.. I've got two controllers off to MGM, a Nue motor, CC motor out for repair and don’t even get me started with what I’ve pre-paid for and not received yet. :diablo:

That looks great Doug. A crawler is most likely in my future so I may be hitting you up with pm or two. I have an area out by the track that I think I could make into a rock pile. If it's called a rock pile. :) What do you mean by dig?

dig is a feature used in the unlimited class usually

It allows the driver to "Lock" the rear axle in place and only send power to the front axles. This decreases turning radius and can get you outa tight situations!

They also have rear digs avail taht lock the front and run the back.

fun stuff!:party::party:

Gee 12.27.2008 02:47 AM

Sound pretty cool. Thanks for the info. I'm finding there's a lot more to these crawlers then meets the eye.

Thanks Gee.

Believe it or not I'm still tweakin' just a bit. Changin' this, lengthen that. Should be ready to go by next weekend though. 1st Comp of the season.

I got bit by the crawler bug almost a year ago. I never had any idea that going slow could be soooo much fun. Plus I love the comp's. ALOT of rig's and I get to hang out at some cool places during the events.

The new Losi crawler that is coming out soon-ish should be ready to compete out of the box. Complete with front and rear dig from the factory. It would definately be a strong start.

2.2 Crawler Class : F & R Dig Allowed-No rear steer

RCShocker 01.06.2009 07:29 PM

Almost there ..........................

Well, the crawler is 98% ready for its first shakedown run. Kinda tough being that it will be at a #1 of 6 series Comp. I will know after the 9th how she turned out runnin' with the medium to big dogs.

Gotta get some rock rash on that "Murder of Crows" Grappler body.

Thanks for the kind words. Too bad it didnt make into the running for Crawler Build of 08'.

I put this crawler build right up there with my very first E-Maxx build. Definately got the time and money in it as well. This 2 month build felt like 6 months because I really like to crawl ALOT!! And my shafty was GONE!!!

Well guys, I took her to the first comp today. The only issue I had was mostly from what I was anticipating. Still need a more articulation with a softer sprung suspension. Not much though.

Got a good bit more tweaking to do but as I headed into Course #3 today I was 4th place with only consistent top finishers in front of me AND a couple behind me. :intello:

A couple of bad decisions and the limited articulation bit me pretty good on #3 and pissed me off pretty good. Although it was a tough course that many had trouble's with. I'm still waiting on overall results to be posted.

I'm also trying to convince myself I had a decent day and be happy that NOTHING broke and I didnt suck a$$ and finish at the tale end of the 20-man field.

Oh yeah, everytime I got on the rocks someone had something cool to say about, for lack of better term, how freakin good my rig looks.

So that was kinda nice.

TDC57 01.12.2009 03:04 AM
