Help with a Lehner Brushless Supermaxx
Hey there pplz, I had quit my R/C passion for a year because of all my univeristy work and applications that i would have to do in the near future. But now im done with all of it and need your help.
I have a supermaxx'd brushless system and completely forgot about my setup and how to work it. If i remeber correctly i had a Lehner 18120(maybe 150 ill check) controller and Lehner 1570 engine... running with 12 3300's in series, and 16 3300(untested). Now the Y adapter i made before was actually in parrallel and this made my car slower in 2nd gear which was really strange, so now hopefully im going to get a correct y adapter done for me. 1st question: the receiver pack in the pics(i need a host) is a 4.8 volts 250maH nicad battery. I remeber being told not to use over 5 volts for a reciver pack so i bought this one. Will it work? 2nd: my spur gear pinion are 17/72. Is this fine? Keep in mind i have the supermaxx differentials which change the gearing. 3rd: is there anything i should change if i want to use 16 cells instead of 12? i never had time to test the car with 16 cells beacuse of my y-adapter problem. Please help me, not many people know about brushless in london! |
Hi Swift, and welcome to the RCM forum.
Not many people know about BL in London?? Well, you just found the best place for any BL / Maxx related info. As for this Y wire thingy... I don't see the problem. Don't you just solder your stuff yourself? Get a couple of plugs, some wire, and go for it. I always use 6V on my receivers (the 6V come from an UBEC, some kind of voltage regulator) A Lehenr 1970, eh? Do you know the number of winds, or the rpm/V rating? |
im checking now, its meant to be very powerful i remeber i wanted the best there was back then lol, and about the pics maybe you could tell me if my setup is ok i just really need a host.
Oops my bad its not a 1970 its a 1930 hmmm, and its written 4D 12 S i think(this is a guess the writing is all scribled out) Could you give me a link to your receiver pack? Thanks for your Help. |
Sure, here it is:
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...=6vubec&cat=39 Highly recomended by most of the users here. As for your Lehner 1930, if it's a 12 turn, it would have 1743rpm/V. Gear it for 35-40mph and you should be fine. You're welcome. |
ah i just found out i had a stealthy mounted receiver pack on it already. It seems to be a black 5 cell ballistic 1100mah 5 volts pack. I think that'll do. And 17/72 is correct gearing with supermaxx diffs?
Hello Swift nice to see you found RCM ;)
Good luck with your maxx. |
More then likely i would guess you are running a 8d 12 s lehner 1930. I have a 6d 10s 1930. It works well for my maxx. Check the back of the motor to see what you are running the motor in s or d mode. I run mine in s mode and has no problems.
ill give it a look...can any1 answer my gearing question? And if i have to change the setup for when i use 8*2=16 cells?
It really depends on how the motor is setup. If the motor is set for a 8 turn then you need to gear lower. If you have a 12 turn setup then you have to gear higher.
swift did you buy the rumrunner bulk buy? if so your running the 1930/5. do not go over the 5.5 volt rx pack on your older bk controllers
Get that mess out of the controller wire's. That might give a problem.
Yes i think it was the bulk buy. How can i check exactly what motor i have? maybe call rumrunner and make them find out what i had ordered?
My lehenr has a number on the end of it stamped in the metal. I not sure if your will or not.
aha yes i just noticed a 7 back there, got more pics.... so taht means i have a 1930/7 12D 4S....?

your motor is done up in s fashion. So like the motor is it is 12 t motor.
so what does that mean exactly? In term of gearing, cells ect??
I would not be scared to run 14 cells on it and gearing 16 66. I ran a 12 51 strobe with 1/8 buggy diffs with no heat problems. Are you going to run strobe slipper with mod 1 gears or 32 pitch.
the slipper is the one with the blue aluminium slipper pads... robinson if i remeber right.... correct?
OK well listen this is what im gonna go.
Run my 1930/7 with 17/72 gearing and 18120 controller with 12 gp3300 in series with a y adapter in series and a separate 5 volt 5 cell 1100 nimh pack for my servos. Should i run the slipper really tight or loose? If that works, i just hop in the 16 GP 3300's no problems? |
with the set up on back of the motor you are accually running a 1930 12 turn. the gearing seems to be right. It should take the 16 cells as well. I would keep and eye on the temps. As far as slipper I would run it tight.
ok thanks again for ur help mr.laptop penguin :p damn its late here 2 am :/ Anyway will hopefully manage to get it running this weekend. Stupid chargers in england mean i have to charge my GP's at 3 amps. :W:
Have you got to test run it yet. I am curious on how it turned out.
no m8 i havent got the time(thought i did), im almost 100% sure i can do it after wednesday; i have college stuff still on my back.
OK coolhand i finally got the y-adapter done now. IM sorry im so late but its just i have less time than expected. Im gonna run it today or tomorow. I have some pics of the wiring ect. and i want to make sure its all correct.
Here it is. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...te_/Emaxx1.jpg |

Im very happy to announce that it works fine on 12 cells. I got a couple of wheelies out of it, which is pretty good considering the weight and soft suspension. It will certainly be better on 18. I love the car :) Vry fast acceleration in 1st lol. Could only use 2nd for like 1 or 2 seconds outside my house. London is busy city still at 1 am lol.
Thanks all very much for your help, now i need to get a charger for 18 cells... |
