Got this in a trade

the guy I got it from was kind of a hack or the guy he got it from was, he trades a lot:whistle:, it is set up poorly, I have had it for over a year and only drove it 2-3 times and basically did nothing to it, now I'm on a go fast kick and have a hacker 8xl and mm with a cc bec to run it with so I need some input as to setup and which model g-maxx it is, probably v1, it has a huge amount of bump steer, need cvd's for it, he had a revo knuckle conversion on it and running revo half shafts it rubs the proline shocks

I think that's a G2.

You have a lot of bump steer because the left front turnbuckle is installed incorrectly. It should go between the steering knuckle mounting point like the right front instead of on top of it.

Damn George, good eye.

yeah, i just changed that before I took the picture:oops:, I was not pleased with it and unimpressed by it's performance and I was lazy so I shelved it, just pulled it down today and started looking it over , with dual 4s packs and the 8xl hacker it should be fun, question, should I lock it in second or keep it a 2spd:whistle:

IMO the 1st gear would be worthless with all the torque a BL motor produces

Maxx42 02.07.2009 11:26 PM

It looks like you are missing the stiffener posts in the chassis that connect the rear skidplate to the upper chassis plate. You can probably just use a pair of emaxx steering posts instead. They will give that rear extended section more support.

That truck looks to have a tamiya front driveshaft... Looks like a high lift piece to me, but might be off a jugg considering the age.

As far as the 2 speed goes, get a gmaxx single speed for it.

Man, I am drunk.

If you have to much power dont expect the diffs to hold up or the tranny and center drivshafts for that matter. The outer shafts are the next weak link but will hold for a while. what the difference between a G2 chassis and a G3? I thought a G3 was extended which this one is but I am still not sure.

Maxx42 02.08.2009 12:23 PM

The chassis plates were slightly thicker in the G3 chassis. I have the G2 with the G3 rear extension. I think the G3 plates are about 1/16 of an inch thicker.

Check out the mod above for the sloppy steering. Don't know it you can get it too work with your chassis. I've done it on the stock chassis and a FLM chassis. Helps a lot.

That thing needs a good clean, and a few other areas need some attention too:

Lock the tranny into 2nd gear, and install an RCM steel idler.
Change the front drive shaft to a 3.3spec item too, may need cutting to length.
Rear stiffener posts can be got from GorillaMaxx directly, just look in the spares section for the G3 chassis (will fit fine, as the thicker upper plate is thicker in the upwards direction).
Swap the plastic steering posts (they look plastic anyway) for the optional alloy ones, and then get yourself a nice Kimbrough large gas truck servo saver for whatever servo you fit.
Get a servo with atleast 200oz/in of torque ideally.

Should make for a nice project truck with all that in mind.

problem is not enough $$ to go around, trying to finish up the buggy conversion...., this one is on the back burner, should not take too long the buggy is getting close:yes:, that and I'm not sure how crazy I want to get with it:whistle::na:

Arct1k 02.11.2009 09:58 PM

You could always trade it again...

halfcab 02.11.2009 10:30 PM

what are you offering?

I need big lipo's for my buggy, 4s-5s 5k mah plus:whistle::lol:

just kidding, I kinda want to see it run good, mabey a little beach running might be kinda fun, the beach is only 25 minutes away:intello::na:

Arct1k 02.11.2009 11:18 PM

Like a 4s5k enerland pack or a 5s 4k pack?

marcus 02.12.2009 11:39 AM

It's better than the nail I recently got my hands on. I thought it was a bit neglected when I was bidding on it and I was right. Luckily I didn't pay a huge amount for it and I merely transplanted the chassis and gearbox (after repairing the bendage and wrung screws) onto my standby new Revo.

If I see a truck like yours I just want to tear it down and rebuild it to be the truck is wants to be. Stick with it Dude !
