RX8 truggy and buggy setups

QUick question for all you rx8 owners..what motor/batt/settings are you guys using in your rides? just curious...i ran my 1700kv combo on 5s with stock settings except *10* on drag brake and timing all the way down to "min"....initially the car felt sluggish and had zero POP....but once I changed it to the most aggressive throttle curve all was well....its geared 15/46 and my temps were extra cool:yes:...thinking about raising timing to give it more....*get-up* on the throttle.....and BTW the track i run it on is HUGE!....whats your setups?

jhautz 05.02.2009 12:13 AM

Got the same motor as you and 5s packs also in my XT8 truggy. Ive got 14/46(slipperential) gearing and it was perfect to slightly strong. Actually a bit stronger than my 1515/2.5D setup. I set it up using the recommended settings from Randy Pike with a setting of 20 on the timing. I am going to try 0 this weekend and see if it brings it back to what I am used to. I just don't need the extra power. it just results in wheel spin and makes it harder to turn consistent laps.

Snipin_Willy 05.02.2009 12:37 AM

I'm going to try out 16/46 (slipperential) this weekend with a tekno Neu 1515 2.5D. I believe Rootar is the exact same, if he hasn't changed. My battery(s) is a RCM 5200 5s

hootie7159 05.02.2009 02:36 AM

thats the same batt im using :)

RC-Monster Mike 05.02.2009 09:11 AM

I use the same basic setup as JHautz - 1700Kv truggy system on 5s geared 14/slipperential. I didn't dislike my MMM/Neu setup, but this RX8 is the ticket for racing - smoother and more precise by comparison. I use the "2" throttle curve(one step below linear) and 95 punch control setting. I will keep changing settings for experimentation, but I like this setup. :)

TekinTeamMgr 05.02.2009 11:39 AM

Guys Mike is on the right track. You can use the PC setting to tone down the initial power to keep wheel speed down. It doesn't affect top speed at all.

RC-Monster Mike 05.02.2009 11:51 AM

Between the punch control, throttle curves and the Slipperential, power delivery can be infinately tuned to track conditions or user preference. I use minimal punch control just to "take the edge off" in racing - too much and it gets a "muddy" feel in the mid range. I use the throttle curve and expo on my radio to further tune the system power delivery, and adjust the Slipperential for traction control as needed(more slip on a loose track and very little slip in high traction). There is no track that can't be tamed with all the available tuning options. :)

jhautz 05.02.2009 01:15 PM

I'm with ya on the throttle curve being a great tool, but rather than do it in the esc, I do it on my radio where I can make quicker changes and do it right from the stand in practice. Its just easier for me that way. I haven't messed with punch control on the RX8 yet cuz I always just ran full punch on my old system, but last week I certainly did utilize the slipperential to "tune" in the initial punch I wanted. I freakin love that thing. On the track I personally think it could be the single best tuning option for power delivery Ive seen yet.

hootie7159 05.08.2009 02:28 AM

jhautz....what tx are you using...im looking to be able to adjust the throttle curve from the tx as well..

jhautz 05.08.2009 02:33 AM

I'm using the DX3R but any of the high end radios can do it.

Update:

OK here's my setup: rc8t rx8 1700kv combo geared 17/46 5s 5200mah RCM lipo
rx8 settings: DB=off, RS=off, BS=50, NW=50,TP=1, VC=5, PC=off
TA=min, CL=off

Here's the track I run it on (haven't raced yet just happy that I can run down a whole lipo without crashing too much :)) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFWTi...eature=related

Its geared for about 45-46mph

With the only WOT section in the beginning quad my run-time was 28min :surprised: and the temps after the run (it's crazy hot in sacramento right now) were: rx8=4 LEDS, T8=140, Lipo=105 :yipi: really happy with this setup...it has the punch that i'm used too with the CC2200kv and it runs a lot cooler and more consistent....

RBMike 05.21.2009 08:00 PM

You got 28 minutes of run time at Prarie city??? That is outstanding.

hootie7159 05.21.2009 08:18 PM

yeup  used the timer on the dx3s  ...

TekinTeamMgr 05.22.2009 01:27 AM

Nice, I've meaing to check out that track. I'd like a few of us to get together on the same day so we can have a class!

tedo 05.22.2009 09:13 AM

I am running the the RX8 2000 combo in my MBX5T on 4s. It is the most drivable system ever! My gearing is 17/46 with no slipperential. Timing set at 8 degrees, and drag brake is kinda set medium (not sure the exact number, I keep adjusting it at the track) to slow roll in to the corners instead of using brakes. Linear Throttle control also.

So smooth....

im in bro....i've been going out to prairie for the past 3 layout changes (i think its been 2-1/2 years ) but i've never raced and i'm thinking about going to a club race this season....but ever since i've been out there...(my first brushless convo being an RCM'ed out revo 3.3 ) i've never ran into someone that ran brushless....but then again i go on wierd days b/c of my work scheduale  like tuesday morning at 0900.....its nice to know there are other RCM'ers in my area....but like i said..im in!!! I'm no A-mainer FT driver but I can drive 1 out 5 laps pretty clean without crashing :mdr:.....well...mabe 1 out 7 depending on how excited I was after completing a difficult jump section only to crash on the next ...BTW I had andrew (the track creator) drive my RX8 RC8t for a full battery pack and it was awesome seeing what the truggy is capable of in the right hands

How about gearings 15/46 with 6S LiPo and RX8 T8 2250 combo ( nitro clutch ) , is it going to get hot or something with those zippy's 6S LiPo's ?

I would change the settings enough with hotwire ?

I will use TT2360 with RX8 in my X2CRT truggy, mechanic brakes and 3-shoe nitro clutch, and 3ch radios maybe.

BrushlessRacer 07.11.2009 05:28 PM

I think 6S on a 2250 is a bit too much! Go for the 1350 when you want to use 6S batteries. Unless you want to go for a dragrace X2:lol:

My 4S 2250kv is very fast and has the punch control on! :intello:

E-Revolution 07.11.2009 07:11 PM

Ok. I would buy some new batteries, going to be cheaper than new motor. I have experience with brushed and brushless cars for 5 years and I know what I do, I asked some advices from peoples who have alot of experience with brushless electrics - and now especially with that product what I mean.

If I can't reduce the power enough with hotwire PC-link, then I buy some new parts to my car.

TekinTeamMgr 07.12.2009 01:28 PM

I agree that is overgeared and over powered by a lot! 6s should be around 1400kv,etc.

adrictan 07.12.2009 08:43 PM

Can't change to a 17T pinion on my F8T. The meshing would be too tight no matter how I try to mount the motor. Guess my only option would be to mess with the Timing...I'm on 4s 5000 25c with the 2050 buggy combo.

team3six 07.26.2009 10:20 PM

I need help. wondering if anyone can give me an idea where to set up my hotwire specs.

I am running a 2WD Truck w/ a 69T spur, 16T pinion. 5 1/4 tires, running (2) SMC 5000 7.4's in series. and this is running the 2250 system

This isnt really for racing so I would like limited brakes and reverse to work in this profile.
anyone have an idea what my setup should look like?

TekinTeamMgr 07.27.2009 11:44 AM

I'd expect you to run brake strength lower than most, along with a reversing motor type. I'd also reccomend lowering your reverse strength also.

How much does this truck weigh?

tedo 07.27.2009 01:09 PM

Just installed a slipperential last weekend, and it rules. Dropped a tooth for the track (16 x 46). No drag brake anymore, 10 degrees timing on 4s. The fan has yet to come on with the slipperential.

danhfvcsd 09.06.2009 12:10 AM

I am running a tekno neu 1512 2050kv motor on 2x 2s smc 9000mah packs in my tekno rc8 and get about 18 minutes before my first cutoff... I am the only electric at the track I think... If a decent driver was at the wheel, they would have taken the 20 minute final with ease, as there were no pit stops to be made hehehe

I would like to get the slipperential in the buggy and truggy too...
